What does another trip around the sun mean

A birthday is the start of another 365-day journey around the sun. For me in particular it is an opportunity to reflect on a year filled with so many blessings, learning and of course challenges. As I grow older, this is what I have learned:

I find comfort in the little things in life. For many, rainy days are difficult. For me, the smell of wet dirt and the sound of rain on my windows is a soothing reminder of how nature puts a pause to our plans for just a bit. The same happens in life. Rainy seasons in our lives come to remind us that sometimes we need to pause and reflect on the purpose of our work, the goals we have in life and the legacy we’ll be leaving for others. Never let a bad job, boss or experience change who you really are. They are just there for a moment and just like rain, one day they will go away. Learn to find comfort in the noise.

I stopped worrying about documenting every moment of my life. Instead, I started living in the moment. Not worrying about having the best selfie for Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. I have found myself wearing less makeup, I stopped forcing my kids to pose for a picture and I started just looking at how beautiful life is when my phone is not around.

Happiness is not found at the finish line. It happens every day while we cook for our kids, while we complain about our house not being clean, when you realize how grateful you are for each of your blessings. COVID 19 has brought so many challenges but in my case, it gave my family the opportunity to spend so much quality time together. Time that otherwise would have been impossible to have. And while some days were difficult, I will cherish all of our meals together, our fights for space, our need for quiet time and our new routines that made this family even better.

You can still build your dreams while enjoying life. Don’t forget to stop and smell the roses, feel the sand between your toes, enjoy the embrace of your children while they still want to spend time with you, hold hands with your loved ones, love your partner for who they are, eat the foods you like the most, and savor every moment.

It’s all about timing. This year I found really great opportunities, but I was also faced with multiple obstacles. At the time, these obstacles seemed like they were derailing me from my original purpose. Now I know, these were meant to provide me with better chances at learning and also gave the strength to become a better leader and connect with even more professionals around the country. Time has a wonderful way of showing us what really matters. Sometimes is just about finding the perfect timing for things to happen. Trust the process and be patient. Always remember that “the two most powerful warriors are patience and time” (Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace).

Cheers to another successful trip around the sun! Let’s begin a new journey…

Name two things that signifify a trip around the sun

My Professor posed a riddle in class today. He said "Question: Name two things that signify a trip around the sun".

I not very good at riddles, but I know that earth travels around the sun once a year. Thus the changing of seasons could be argued as signifiers (earth rotates on it's axis as it revolves). Any other thoughts?

There's probably many:

You're 1 year older
You've gotta pay taxes again
Trees have another ring around them

Of course you don't have to be on Earth to have a trip around the Sun. On any planet, the Sun is in the same constellation as it was exactly 1 trip ago.

How about the red shift of light is the same as to one measured some time ago (well a year). This would be true as the Earth's orbit is not circular around the Sun.

maybe he means two WORDS signifying a trip around the sun.

two words that both mean a trip around the sun are

YEAR

and

ORBIT

the orbit is the path in space that goes around the sun, it is usually oval shape.
the year is the time that the trip takes, to go along the orbit.

My Professor posed a riddle in class today. He said "Question: Name two things that signify a trip around the sun".

now maybe he does not want two words, maybe he wants two SIGNS that a full orbit has been accomplished and that exactly one year has elapsed.

1. One sign is the passage of an equinox or solstice. Like start counting on the Summer Solstice---the longest daylight day of the year---and wait till it comes round again.

You can tell the Summer Solstice by marking where the sun sets. stand in a certain spot and find out the farthest north it sets. say the farthest north it sets is on the point of some mountain. so remember that and wait until it happens again and sets right on that mountain... that's one year

2. Another sign is what stars are overhead at midnight.

Like, go out at midnight tonite and see what constellation is on the meridian (the northsouth line right overhead) and remember that constellation.

then when you begin to robins next year remember to go out at midnight again and see if that same constellation is on the meridian. if it is, then that is a year.

those are SIGNS of a full trip. the WORDS for a full trip are, like I said in the previous post, "orbit" and "year"

Ok, he said time (a year) is one thing.

The other thing or concept is something we all have inside of us....Any further ideas?

if it doesnt cost you any points to guess wrong, and you dont mind just guessing, try "energy"

I dont know why that occurs to me.

there is no accounting for how some people think

more importantly patticake, are you having fun?
is astronomy a fun class?
are you having at all a good time at this PF message board, I hope so

I suggested that, if it doesnt hurt to guess, you try "energy" as a way of distinguishing a particular orbit around the sun
the reason is that what he means by "signify" could be MEASURE.

like he says that one answer is TIME, right
well for me time does not 'signify' a full orbit, time is a way of measuring and orbit-----and the earth's orbit measures one year (of time)

so how else would you measure or quantify an orbit?
well you could designate the orbit by saying its radius. like that it is is 93 million miles out from sun-----or 150 million kilometers.

but distance is not in each one of us body (hhmmmm or is it?)

how else could you quantify or measure or designate a particular orbit?

well you could say the earth orbit is rougly circular with roughly a SPEED of 30 kilometers a second. that would distinguish it from mars orbit which is slower, or jupiter orbit whcih is even slower

but speed is not in everyones body (hmmmm or is it?)

so how else could you measure or designate some particular orbit around the sun?

1. Stellar parallax.

2. The apparent motion of the sun through the constellations every 12 months.

What does a trip around the Sun means?

ORBIT. the orbit is the path in space that goes around the sun, it is usually oval shape. the year is the time that the trip takes, to go along the orbit.

Is a year another trip around the Sun?

A new year starts when Earth has made one orbit around the Sun. This takes roughly 365 days, so every new year on the last day of December, we are at the same location around the Sun as last year. This also goes for any other day during the year. New Years is a celebration of Earth's orbit around the Sun.

Is a birthday a full trip around the Sun?

A birthday is the start of another 365-day journey around the sun. For me in particular it is an opportunity to reflect on a year filled with so many blessings, learning and of course challenges.

What is one trip around the Sun called?

The motion around the sun along its orbit is called a revolution. The amount of time it takes for a single trip around the sun is called a period of revolution. The period for the Earth to revolve around the sun is 365.24 days or one year.
