Feb 9, 2020 Hi new to the forum, had the thump upon hard acceleration, saw the torn(non-existent) rubber bearing surround on the center support bearing. Ordered a dorman 934-620 replacement listed for 08 -14 cts awd. Removed the driveshaft and cannot figure out how to separate the driveshaft to install the bearing. Several posts indicate that its not possible,
that I need an entire new driveshaft assembly. Anyone successfully changed the center support bearing on an awd cts? Did this same job on my 06 cts without a hitch. Any thoughts most welcome. thx

OK--searched for a while and came up with a thread, but it wasn't the one I recalled. @Mullah88 ...any info here? 2009 CTS-4 driveshaft flap/knock noise?WOW! I do a little searching on the driveshaft carrier bearing and look at what I find. I have an 08 CTS rear wheel drive. On moderate acceleration from a stop I feel a thump beneath the car. I suspected the infamous differential bushing until research revealed that GM redesigned the mount... www.cadillacforums.com 08 CTS L76/MYC conversion Joined Oct 23, 2013 · 685 Posts

The AWD drive shaft is uniquely different from the RWD drive shaft which apparently all CTS-Vs are, so not sure how much help the reference will be. I was told by a drive shaft shop that some of them are not rebuildable, but that was a couple years ago and it stands to reason that anything of this nature that can be put together, can be taken
apart, however, in order to rebuild it, parts must be available and that may be where the trouble is. The problem with some aftermarket performance parts, which I believe are offered by VOODOOCHIKIN, is that some ride comfort may be sacrificed if polyurethane is used in place of the rubber bushings as more vibrations are transmitted through the car.

IIRC the Voodoochikin bearing did work for the AWD shaft; Mullah88 may be able to confirm this. The answer to the question "Has anyone
replaced just the bearing" is yes. '12 CTS Performance Sports Wagon AWD Joined Jan 5, 2016 · 3,642 Posts
I have a spare shaft that I still would like to put one of these bearings on.. There was talk that the stiffer bearing caused more vibration but was much longer wearing. Not sure where the thread is but there was one about that. Rodney

This is the one I was thinking of, but again, inconclusive... @Iamfrankiebrown ... any updates? Joined Feb 9, 2020 · 4 Posts
Discussion Starter · #13 · Feb 9, 2020 well it can be done, just finished. Lots of marking parts alignment and soft mallet tapping. Don't want to call this a success until its spinning under the car but I feel pretty good about it. Dorman part didn't fit exactly. Careful disassembly let me reuse. some original components. If this wasn't possible I was going to pour my own polyurethane
bushing in place as only the rubber was destroyed. Theres a guy using Reoflex 60 on youtube. I would have used the more flexible Reoflex 40. Glad I didn't have to make that mess. thanks to all who chimed in to my first post. Will post how it rides soon. I had no idea such a resource was available for my exploitation. You have moved me one step closer to the Mad Scientist Hall of Fame, as well as helped me discover by accident that I can select edit a quote by highlighting what I want to include.

I replaced mine with a Doorman bearing. Pian in the ass to split the shafts apart to get the bearing on and now it’s knocking again. I’m just going to buy a whole new driveshaft this time Joined May 14, 2006 · 3,271 Posts
I replaced mine with a Doorman bearing. Pian in the ass to split the shafts apart to get the bearing on and now it’s knocking again. I’m just going to buy a whole new driveshaft this time I learned 20 yrs ago not to fool with Dorman parts after several brand new worthless clutch master and slave
cylinders, as well as observed a number of new, problem Brake mastercylinders. This is definitely a name brand quality part job; OE, SKF, Timken, Moog, etc... Joined Jan 19, 2016 · 37 Posts

Sorry I don't have a part number but the part is out there. My mechanic was able to do the
work with not too much effort but it did take time. Hope this helps some. Joined Jul 29, 2019 · 299 Posts
I changed mine with a gear puller and then a piece of pvc but its was rear wheel drive. I did have to tap the shaft out of the splines with a rubber mallet How long does it take to replace a center support bearing? That's very difficult to answer due to the multiple variables involved in removing and replacing hard to access components such as the center driveshaft on a front wheel drive vehicle like your Edge. However, in general, this type of job can often be completed in one business day; or less than 8 service hours.
How much does it cost to replace a drive shaft bearing? The average cost for carrier bearing replacement is between $293 and $386. Labor costs are estimated between $132 and $167 while parts are priced between $161 and $220. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your specific vehicle or unique location.
How do I know if my carrier bearing is bad?The first sign of a bad carrier bearing is the howling noise it makes. It sounds similar to loud tire noise. It should be apparent to anybody riding in the cab because the drive shaft and carrier bearing run just under the thin floorboards. You may hear the howling only at certain speeds too.
