Is the ice maker switched OFF?
Make sure the ice maker is turned ON. Some ice maker models have a small ON/OFF switch located on the ice maker. It may have been accidentally turned OFF. Confirm the switch is in the ON position. If the ice maker still does not work, please keep reading below.

Has the water filter been changed?
Have you recently changed the water filter? If the refrigerator water filter was installed wrong, the ice maker will not produce ice cubes. If you have replaced the water filter lately, please check to be sure it is installed and connected properly. (HINT – A common issue is the rubber seal in between the water filter and the filter housing is not seated correctly) A refrigerator water filter that has been installed in the refrigerator longer than 6 months may be clogged and causing the ice maker problems. Remove and replace the old water filter and install a new one. Once the new water filter is installed, give the refrigerator/freezer multiple hours to begin making ice. If the ice maker still does not work, please keep reading below.

Is the ice maker blocked with ice?
If ice builds up within the ice maker it can jam up and not produce ice. Check the ejector arm on the ice maker. The ejector arm can be blocked with ice and not allow ice to be produced or dropped. If you find any ice buildup, remove the ice that is causing the problem. Check the ice maker for any other ice blockages and remove all ice to allow for proper ice production. If the ice maker still does not work, please keep reading below.

Has the water system been fully flushed after replacing the water filter?
When a new water filter is installed, the water lines need to be flushed. Air can be trapped in the lines and cause the “no ice” issue. Air in the water lines can also cause dripping water from the dispenser and smaller or hollow ice cubes.

Here is how to flush refrigerator water lines: To flush the water lines on your refrigerator after replacing the water filter, simply dispense water from the water dispenser for 5 seconds. Wait for 5 seconds, and repeat this for a few minutes. This will remove the air from the water system and will give the ice maker water to produce ice cubes. If the ice maker still does not work, please keep reading below.

Have you checked the water supply line?
The water supply line supplies water to your refrigerator water and ice dispenser. Ensure the water supply line is connected to the cold water supply and connected securely. Be sure the water shutoff valve is open. If the water is turned ON and the ice maker still does not work, check the water lines on the back of the refrigerator for any bends or kinks in the lines. Straighten the water lines out if you find any kinks. If the water lines are damaged, replace them to avoid leaks.

HINT – When sliding the refrigerator back into place, be sure you do not bend or kink the water line as this will cause the ice maker to not receive water. If the ice maker still does not work, you may need to replace the ice maker. See below for your Whirlpool ice maker…

Why is the ice maker on my Whirlpool refrigerator not working?

Many Whirlpool refrigerator owners are perplexed as to why the ice maker isn’t working when the water is still running. Check to see if the ice maker shut-off arm is in the down position. If the shut-off arm is facing above, turn it down to create ice.

How do I know if my Whirlpool refrigerator door safety switch is bad?

You should hear the ice maker start to dispense ice. If the ice maker does not dispense ice, the door safety switch is probably faulty. A trained Whirlpool service technician is the best person to make this repair. It is rare for the door dispensing switch to fail on a Whirlpool refrigerator, but it can happen.

Why is my Refrigerator not making ice cubes?

Another reason for a lack of ice cubes may be a faulty water inlet valve. This is an essential component of your ice maker and will open and close as needed to allow the water to supply the refrigerator with the water it needs. If your valve is stuck closed or only opening part of the way, the water cannot reach the ice maker.

Do Whirlpool refrigerator ice makers need high water pressure?

Most Whirlpool refrigerator ice makers need at least 20PSI of water pressure to work properly. Low water pressure can affect your ice maker in several ways. The automatic inlet valve may not open. You may notice the ice molds not filling properly, resulting in small, misshapen ice cubes.

Why is my Whirlpool bottom freezer not making ice?

First, make sure your water filter is up to date to help avoid clogs that reduce water flow. Next, double check that the fridge water line behind the refrigerator isn't kinked or twisted. Lastly, use a leveler to ensure that your refrigerator and ice maker are level so water distributes evenly throughout the ice tray.

How do I reset my Whirlpool bottom freezer ice maker?

The reset button is usually located at the bottom of the ice maker unit or in some cases at the top or on the bottom of the ice tray. Once located, press the button down for a few seconds until you hear a beep sound. Once you hear the beep sound, let go of the button. Once reset, check if the problem has been solved.

Why did my Whirlpool refrigerator stop making ice?

A clogged water filter, kinked water line hose, or defective water inlet valve can restrict the water flowing to an ice maker. When this happens, ice production will be limited or completely stop. Here's how to address water supply issues that can affect ice production: Change your refrigerator water filter.
