Riverside University Health System Moreno Valley, CARiverside University Health System (RUHS) Medical Center is a 439-bed hospital that offers excellence in healthcare as well as medical education for the region’s medical residents, nursing students, and allied health professionals. Fellows in Vituity’s AP Fellowship Program at RUHS Medical Center will train in the 38-bed ED that oversees 100,000 patient visits annually and serves as the first responder in the case of natural disasters for Riverside County. The hospital has a Level II adult and pediatric trauma center, primary stroke center, and fully operational paramedic base station. It anticipates the opening of its STEMI center in 2021. CurriculumThe Vituity EMAP Fellowship at Riverside University Health System provides clinical and didactic instruction, with our primary focus on the patient. The program is committed to providing a safe environment for the patients, consumer-friendly service, and general health promotion for the community. The curriculum is modeled from the American College of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (SEMPA) standards for clinical postgraduate PA programs. The clinical practicum is focused on hands-on training. Over the course of the 12.5-month fellowship, the fellow will spend 10 months (40 weeks) in the core Emergency Department, gaining 2,100 clinical hours in acute EM care in addition to lecture time. Off-service rotations will include the following: correctional health (in county jails), internal medicine, ICU, PoCUS course, and specialty rotation tracks. The didactic segment of the fellowship includes weekly didactic lectures provided by the EM physicians and advanced provider group to elevate the fellow’s clinical confidence and ability.
