Our departmental and graduate medical education leaders are committed to enhancing diversity within the program so that it mirrors the population of patients we serve.  We work to recruit a diverse group of residents, and celebrate the multiple dimensions represented in our community, including, race, creed, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, and age.  We believe strongly that this model fosters collaboration and teamwork thus providing optimal care to the patients we serve.  We provide a longitudinal curriculum entitled Health Equity & Justice in Medicine (HEJiM) providing our residents with robust training in topics such as cultural competency and implicit bias amongst many others.  This initiative is reinforced during teaching rounds along with several Grand Round presentations from local and national experts exploring the etiologies of health inequity in our country and abroad.  We work to support faculty and residents interested in scholarship related to health equity and justice.  We provide a safe space for resident to engage in dialogue, learn, and contribute to their fullest potential.  We seek opportunities to enrich our community through volunteerism and to effect lasting change through engagement with local leaders.
