Most of the time, your Honeywell thermostat hangs quietly on the wall doing its job of keeping your home comfortable. The only interaction you may have with it is to adjust the setting up or down a few degrees.

Sometimes though, adjusting the setting doesn’t seem to help. If no matter how much you adjust the thermostat, you can’t get comfortable, you may need to reset it.

Below we’ll show you how to reset your Honeywell thermostat. In fact, we’ve dug through the manuals of the most popular models so you don’t have to. Read on to learn more.

How to Reset a Honeywell Thermostat: All Models

There are several ways you may want to rest your thermostat, depending on its capabilities and the problem you’re trying to remedy. Here are the types of resets you may want to do:

  • Factory reset. This is the most common type of reset. It returns the device to the original settings when it came from the factory.
  • Wi-Fi Reset. If you have a Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat, this reset will cause it to forget the Wi-Fi network it’s using.
  • Schedule reset. This will erase the schedule you are using to control your thermostat.
  • Model-Specific Resetting. Depending on the kind of Honeywell thermostat you have, you will use a different technique to reset it. Identify the thermostat model by looking at the front of the unit or checking the manual that came with it.

Caution:  Some of these thermostats are connected directly to household electric current. If you can’t identify the model or aren’t knowledgeable about working with household wiring, call an HVAC pro before doing any work that would expose you to the wiring.

If you make a mistake, there is a danger of electric shock, which could cause injury or even death. However, most of these resets can be done by simply using the built-in controls without any risk.

  6. Wait five seconds.
  7. Take the batteries out and replace them in the original alignment, positive to positive and negative to negative.
