The Florida Board of Massage Therapy requires that you must be at least 18 years of age and have completed an approved massage course of at least 500 hours or an approved massage apprenticeship training program of at least 12 months. The state of Florida also requires a massage license applicant to take and pass a 2 hour prevention of medical errors course.

Before a Florida massage license is issued, you must also pass the MBLEx, governed by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). The MBLEx will need to send your results directly to the Florida Quality Assurance Board of Massage Therapy.

Florida also accepts the BCTMB Advanced Certification exam. You must have 250 hours of post-graduation, hands-on experience, or the equivalent to 6 months minimum hands-on experience to apply to take the BCTMB which is for the Advanced Certificate. You cannot use the BCTMB to obtain an initial certification/license, you need to take and pass the MBLEx for your initial certification/license in Florida.
