4.0 out of 5 stars First Alert Smoke Detector 9120B Multi-Pack

Pros:–Price for a multi-pack, my house uses six smoke alarms–Contents: as pictured in the ad in addition to six plastic dust bonnets and six instruction guides. 9-volt included batteries are EverReady. Dust bonnets are only used after installation in construction areas generating dust from plastering or drywalling. Do not use the bonnets on a daily basis.–New products, stamped manufactured June 20, 2018, ordered mine July 8, so 3 weeks old. Made in Mexico, not USA or China–Black, white, neutral connector pins clearly marked on reverse label for easy identification. Wire insulation comes pre-cut at ½" but I stripped mine to 3/4" for better wire contacts--Glad I decided to remove all old units and rewire the new instead of using adapter plugs, electric juncture boxes are tight so adding adapters would have made the area more crowded and I saved $25 not having to buy ADF adapters.–Relieved the replacement is finished--removing old, rewiring and replacing six new alarms took exactly two hours.Cons:–Top domed cover cover seems flexible, handle it carefully to avoid breaking from too much pressure during installation and battery replacement–No new screws are included for mounting the base to the electric juncture box, so use your existing screws–not a deal breakerOther thoughts:--Batteries: Instructions on page 4 of the included printed brochure, under the subheading REGULAR MAINTENANCE, WARNING states do NOT use rechargeable 9-volt batteries–After installation is complete, restore power, each unit has the green LED lit to confirm power to the unit, then remove the clear plastic strip to activate the battery. Noticed I had to hold the test button a few seconds unit to chirps twice then release, otherwise they did not reset and continued chirping. The long hold resolved the issue–instructions aren’t clear on best reset method.–Using these alarms to replace old FireX model 120-1072B. Not happy about the Kidde replacement model i4618 and its redesigned triangular pin connectors.–An in-home installation, no risk of theft or tampering, so personally decided not to use the supplied locking pins on the battery compartment door or ceiling mount–locking pin use is optional

I have 5 of these in my house. Alarm is very loud. When battery goes dead the chirp will drive you crazy, so loud. They are networked so if one detector goes off, they all go off. Then you have to figure out which detector actually sensed smoked or maybe just had too much dust. When 5 detectors go off at the same time get out your earplugs. That actually is a good thing, because if you had a fire start in a room on one side of the house you will hear the detectors in all other parts of the house, as long as they are all the same style of detector.

These were relatively easy to install and are much whiter than our old ones. We did need to swap out the face plates and connectors, but not a big deal at all, just be sure to turn the breaker off. If your units are interconnected, you will probably want to have wire strippers handy for the orange/yellow (interconnection) wire. The black and white wires are pre-cut so you can just pull the ends off. Love that the battery compartment is easily accessed from the side and you don't have to take the whole thing down to replace a battery. The 6 pack came with 9v batteries, detectors, new connectors and dust covers. A great value.

I never knew smoke detectors had a lifespan, especially hardwired ones. Well they apparently do now. Like everything, it seems electronics are designed to die and be replaced over time. Our new house is only 7 years old, but we started getting 'five chirp' alarms all over the house, which is an indication that the units are approaching 'end of life'. I was not happy having to replace these all over my house, but I was happy to find a bulk pack at a decent price. These were easy to install, requiring I simply unplug the old and plug in the new. They come with back-up batteries pre-installed, and I am not sure how long these will last. Out of six, we had one that immediately chirped a 'low battery' signal...so I replaced it with a new battery. Other than this issue, I would have given these 5 stars.

Seems like these smoke detectors don’t like me cooking. I can’t cook after hours especially when everyone is sleeping.
No doubt it’ll save my life but c’mon. Can you have a button that snoozes? I press the button as the alarm is going off but it’ll trigger again if smoke is detected.

My smoke detectors were original from when I purchased my home 20 years ago. I often thought about replacing the old-yellowing smoke detectors, but thought it was a job for a fire-pro or electrician because they were hard-wired to the house. One Saturday, I took one of the old smoke detectors off the ceiling, found the serial number and model name, and inspected how they were installed - seemed easy enough.
I looked for the replacement or "newer" model on Amazon, and found what I wanted in an affordable package of six(6) NEW smoke detectors and ordered. When they arrived, they looked great, easy instructions, already had 9 volt batteries installed with each unit, and no re-wiring was needed - they simply plugged in using the same pigtail as the old unit. I feel so much better having these installed and they look great!

They were easy to install just by removing the old units including the base plates and untwisting the feed lines located in the wall. The only problem was the batteries that came with the new units. Half (3) of the batteries were dead or near death. Found out the hard way as alarms were going off at various locations after they were installed. I highly recommend buying your own "new" 9v batteries and removing the cheap batteries that are shipped with the alarm units.

We purchased these and put them up right away. Super easy, batteries last a long time and they blink green to show that they work! Highly recommend!

Hopefully these will save me from a grisly death.

What does a flashing green light on a First Alert smoke detector mean?

What does it mean? This is the power indicator light: First Alert and BRK alarms have a power indicator light to show you that your alarm is receiving power. Some alarms have a red or green light that blinks every few minutes, while other models blink rapidly or shine a solid light.
*A unit in a series of interconnected alarms is blinking to let you know it triggered an alarm. *The unit has been temporarily silenced with the Test/Silence button. Alarm “chirps” 1 time every 60 secs with 1 Green flash once per min. Alarm “chirps” 1 time every 60 secs with 1 Green flash once per min.
