This Easy Beef Stroganoff recipe is a classic dish the whole family will love. It’s filled with seasoned ground beef and a creamy mushroom sauce served over egg noodles. Enjoy it with a veggie for the perfect meal!

My family absolutely LOVES this dish. This is a very simple, yet delicious ground beef stroganoff recipe. I withhold the plain mushrooms because my family just aren’t fans. They don’t mind the cream of mushroom sauce, but wouldn’t eat this if it were packed with mushrooms. haha.

If you are a mushroom fan, then definitely add some! 🙂 I would suggest adding half a pound of freshly sliced mushrooms to the sauce before you start to simmer it.

These easy skillet recipes are what my weeknight dinner dreams are made of. They’re so simple to prepare and from start to finish you can have this hearty meal on your table in 30 minutes. I like to serve ours with a side of broccoli and my family eats it right up.

Just a quick note- I like to simmer the beef mixture for a good 15 minutes. It gets rid of the strong sour cream scent, resulting in one fabulous savory sauce.

Traditionally, beef stroganoff is served over egg noodles, but you could serve this over any pasta of your choice. There is no going wrong with this incredible dish!

What is the sauce in beef stroganoff made of?

What is stroganoff sauce made of? Stroganoff sauce is a sour cream gravy made with beef broth that's thickened with flour. It's flavoured with mustard and has mushrooms in it. I love the pale brown creamy colour against the deep golden brown seared beef!

What is the most tender cut of beef for beef stroganoff?

Performing best when thinly sliced, rump steak is the most tender cut that comes from the hip section of the animal. This option will prove to be one of the most affordable for your stroganoff. Similar to the sirloin, thinly cut strips seared over high heat will be the most effective and tasty way to cook them.

What can I substitute for cream of mushroom in beef stroganoff?

Sour cream is a good option for recipes that use cream of mushroom soup specifically for texture, rather than flavor. For example, beef stroganoff or a creamy sauce for meatballs. Some brands of sour cream are quite a bit thicker than soup.

Why do you add flour to beef stroganoff?

Flour acts as the thickener in beef stroganoff, so all you have to do to replace it is use something else to thicken the sauce. You can make ground beef stroganoff gluten-free by replacing the flour with cornstarch, or by using full-fat sour cream.
