CURT Weight Distribution Introduction

Are weight distribution hitches Universal?

All weight distribution system parts, except for the shank component that fits into your hitch, are proprietary and brand-specific. You could mount a Curt WD head on a Reese shank (or the reverse) but the spring bars and other parts need to be from the same maker as the head assembly into which they will be installed.

Are all weight distribution hitches the same?

There are two types of weight distribution hitches. The difference is in the spring bars of the hitch. Square spring bars secure into the center of the ball mount. Better for increasing the system weight rating.

What are the parts of a weight distribution hitch?

Parts of a Weight Distribution Hitch WD hitches are comprised of a shank, head, spring bars and hookup brackets.

Can you put too much tension on weight distribution hitch?

If you have the spring bar tension set up too high you can see ride issues. Typically it's a very harsh ride quality but sway is possible too. The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow.
