Trim Configurations

The third generation of production for the Toyota Sienna began in 2010, but this article will focus on the 2013 to 2018 model years exclusively.

Prior to the 2013 model year, the Sienna offered a four-cylinder engine on its base trim. For 2013, however, this engine was dropped, and instead all trim levels now come equipped with a more powerful V6. A few new standard features were also added for this year, including tri-zone climate control on the LE trim and an innovative blind-spot monitoring system on the XLE and Limited Toyota Sienna trim levels.

For 2014, the Sienna doesn't see many changes, aside from the addition of its tow prep package as a standard feature. In terms of Toyota Sienna towing capacity, drivers can expect an estimated 3,500 pounds (when properly equipped).1

For the Toyota Sienna 2015 model year, a refreshed grille and new taillights are the most notable change. However, the 2015 Sienna also sees some new interior materials and an upgraded suspension.

The Toyota Sienna 2016 has a few new features as well, including Siri Eyes-Free integration as a standard feature across all trim levels. Some trim levels now also come equipped with a GPS linking app that displays GPS navigation from a compatible smartphone to the vehicle's central display. For the Toyota Sienna 2017, a slightly more powerful V6 engine becomes standard, and an eight-speed automatic transmission is also brand new and standard across all trims. Toyota Sienna AWD is also available in most trims. The 2018 model year sees a few feature upgrades, including Toyota’s suite of driver-assist features, revised infotainment system, and a couple extra USB ports for passengers in the rear seats.

In terms of Toyota Sienna mpg, fuel economy has been pretty consistent over the years. For reference, the 2013 Sienna gets an estimated 19 mpg combined in its base four-cylinder engine, compared to an estimated 20 mpg combined for the 2018 Sienna with base six-cylinder engine.2

Toyota Sienna 2013 - 2018 Trim Configurations:

• L - In earlier model years, the base L trim comes with basic features such as 17-inch wheels, power accessories, and a four-speaker sound system. More recent model years, including 2017 and 2018, feature keyless ignition/entry, a seven-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and smartphone integration as well.
• LE - Earlier model years feature a roof rack, power rear doors, tri-zone climate control, and Bluetooth® connectivity. In more recent model years (2017 to 2018), this trim boasts upgraded upholstery that's easier to clean, rear sun-shades, and even a Wi-Fi hotspot.
• SE - In earlier model years, including 2013, the SE trim features 19-inch wheels, refined suspension, and a power liftgate. For the 2017 and 2018 model years, the SE includes additional features like a noise-reducing windshield, heated front seats, and a larger driver information interface.
• XLE - For the 2013 model year, the XLE trim includes a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and blind-spot monitoring.In the 2018 model year, the XLE features push-button start, parking sensors, and power rear windows.
• Limited - In earlier model years, the Limited's features include 18-inch wheels, dual sunroofs, parking sensors, an upgraded 10-speaker sound system, and stylish two-tone leather upholstery. The 2018 model’s Limited trim sees upgraded features such as power-folding mirrors, noise-reducing glass, a heated steering wheel, and driver-seat memory settings.

Tbh it’s one of the most comfortable and versatile cars I’ve ever owned. (Never owned a minivan beforehand) the acceleration is good for getting in and out of traffic or when you just kinda wanna go. It rides smooth and the captains chair are super comfortable. The space for cargo is insane. It’s not the the quietest car and removing the middle seats requires a high schooler or a body builder... or someone who just needs a good work out. Interior wise beats all the other minivans in my humble opinion. It’s elegant and futuristic. Toyota took the time in designing it. The Fan settings are a little wonky. It either blows you out of the car or lightly spits cold or hot air on you. But! With climate control in the back you can easy stay cool.

I like the idea of carrying 8 people, and when I don't need the seats the 3rd row completely disappears into the floor. I normally use it like a truck. It's got more cargo capacity than my old truck (Sportrac) and will handle class III towing, although I never need more than class II. Fuel economy is around 25mpg the way I normally use it, and it's got lots of room inside.

Cons

• Styling: Would have preferred a Black one with a Red stripe, like the A-Team. You take what's available when you buy used.
• Weather Versatility: Came with street grade tires, probably swap them for something a bit more Truck like to match how it's being used.

I feel, driving my new Sienna XLE AWD, the way I remember feeling when I first drove my first Toyota, a new Camry in 1990. Safe and grounded and like I am in the lap of luxury. The Sienna, even though it has ample room, drives like a car. The XLE has all the bells and whistles that anyone would want. Being low to the ground and AWD, it handles any road with ease. It can convert from a comfortable passenger van into a cargo-hauling "truck" in minutes. It fits our family and our lifestyle so well, and I feel so confident in its safety and handling... that we've traded our second vehicle for another Sienna XLE AWD... and I vow to never leave Toyota again. :)
