Things to do saturday morning near me

There are too many parties, too many galleries and too many new restaurants to try, but not enough time this weekend for all of then. Hence, we have curated five activities for you to do this weekend.

New cocktail menu at O/T Bar

Photo: Cocktail Bar

Friday night: If you’re a Northie and you’ve been complaining about the lack of a good cocktail bar in your neighbourhood, head down to O/T Bar.

Inspired by 1940s Manhattan office, O/T Bar is the first cocktail bar in the north that’s gaining recognition in the cocktail scene, thanks to the innovative concoctions designed by their award-winning bartenders — Azlam and Max.

Of which, we recommend the Unsung Star ($23), a vodka-based concoction stirred with juices and prosecco. Expect a nutty flavour that balances out the bold aroma in the cocktail.

Meanwhile, inspired by corporate emails, Warmest Regards ($21) combines Old Tom Gin, Mandarin Bitters and honey to create a strong and intriguing cocktail.

Pan Pacific’s Hai Tien Lo launches a new menu

Photo: Hai Tien Lo

Friday night: Hai Tien Lo at Pan Pacific Singapore, one of the best Cantonese restaurant in the country, has launched a new menu to celebrate the appointment of their new Executive Chef.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chef Ricky Leung’s leverages on his culture and 30 years of culinary experience to embed the true essence of Cantonese cuisine into his new dishes. Of which, his signature dish, Crispy Chicken Smoked with Royal Tie Guanyin starts with a dry-ageing process of ten hours to render the crispiest skin, before it is smoked with lychee wood and Royal Tie Guanyin tea leaves.

Another dish we recommend is Fresh Crab Meat and Egg White stuffed in Chicken Wing, traditionally done with birds nest. The dish is rich and sinful from deep-drying the chicken skin, yet, with traces of freshness from the mix of shredded crab meat and a whole prawn.

Hai Tien Lo’s new menu can be enjoyed a la carte that starts from $10, or lunch sets and dinner sets that start from $58 and $88 respectively.

A lamb feast cooked at home

Australian Lamb Racked prepared by Felix Chong, Executive Chef of Monti

Sunday night: Easy dinner recipes include pasta, steak and lava cake. However, if you really want to impress your friend and family, it’s time to serve something unorthodox — lamb.

Not that it’s an exotic ingredient. But compared to beef, pork and chicken, lamb and mutton are the least commonly found proteins in restaurants. It’s also an uncommon ingredient found in household kitchens, likely from the lack of knowledge on how to prepare it. While unfamiliar, cooking lamb is actually as easy as cooking any other type of meat.

In collaboration with Meat & Livestock Australia, local chefs have stepped forward to share three easy lamb recipes for the perfect dinner date: lamb tartare, lamb rack, and lamb kebab

Chirashi don starts from $39.9, while sushi nigiri sets start from $16.9 for five pieces.

It’s a must to try their one-year aged soy sauce, that has more depth, and a touch of tartness compared to commercially-produced ones. Their salmon is also aged, giving it a deeper flavour, while their sea bream embodies a prominent citrus undertone as their diet consists of primarily oranges.
