Just like any other first-party game on the Nintendo Switch, you can use Amiibo with The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. In this Zelda Link's Awakening Amiibo guide, we'll be walking you through how to use your Amiibo with the game, because there's only one specific location on Koholint Island where you can scan in your Amiibo.
When you first wake up as Link after washing up on the shores of Koholint Island, you're in Mabe Village. Unfortunately for you, there's a fair bit of a journey to go before you can actually start using your Amiibo in Link's Awakening. Below, you can find a list of all the major stages of the game you need to complete before you can start using your Amiibo.
- Beat the Tail Dungeon.
- Rescue BowWow from the Moblins.
- Complete the Bottle Grove Dungeon.
- Head back to Mabe Village.
When you get to Mabe Village after beating Bottle Grotto, you're looking for the character pictured below. He's called Dampe, and it's through this NPC that Link can unlock not only the Dungeon Builder feature in Link's Awakening, but also use Amiibo in conjunction with the new feature.
Speak to Dampe, and he'll tell you to meet him back at his shack, since you've apparently cleared your schedule (you definitely haven't). Dampe's shack can be found by going through the Mysterious Woods, and then heading east and slightly north, to the northeast reaches of Koholint Prairie.
Zelda Link's Awakening Amiibo Rewards
Once you've reached Dampe's shack, you can enter and speak to him. Select the 'Amiibo' option when asked what you want, and then opt for the 'Get special chamber' option to scan in Amiibo. Below, we've compiled a list of the in-game rewards for all corresponding Zelda Amiibo.

As with many games on the Nintendo Switch, players can get a series of bonuses through the use of their amiibos, and here we have a list of what exactly can be obtained.
What Do Amiibos Do?
Amiibos form part of Nintendo's toys-to-life platform that offers a broad range of characters from many games on the Nintendo consoles, beginning first with the Wii U and Super Smash Bros. that could be used to store character information and in-game bonuses for certain titles.
The Legend of Zelda line of amiibos began first with Wolf Link for use in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD, but expanded over time as more games were released in the Zelda series.

Link’s Awakening's Amiibos
The primary use of amiibos in this game relates to the dungeon creator. This is a new feature is not present in the original version of the game, and it allows players to create custom dungeons with a list of pre-made rooms from dungeons that a player has already cleared, and some bonus ones as well. In total, 187 chambers are unlocked through a rigorous completion all of the game’s content, but the final chambers can only be unlocked through a combination of five amiibos.

Speaking with Dampe at his hut and selecting the amiibo option will allow a player to use one of the above-listed characters. The first five will unlock an additional room in the Dungeon Creator. Amiibos unlock a room at random, and one simply needs any of the five from above. After that, the amiibos will not unlock anything further, except for one made especially for Link’s Awakening.
Adding Plus Effects
The only amiibo needed exclusively for this game is the new Link's Awakening amiibo. Using it will provide the “Plus Effect” of creating a Shadow Link throughout the custom dungeons that tries to defeat you. This allows for a greater challenge within the dungeons in which players need to move quickly to avoid being hunted down by a shadowy clone.

Sharing Dungeons
A major critique of the game is that there is no online support for sharing dungeons. It seems rather antiquated to share dungeons, as players need to create a dungeon, and then speak with Dampe. Select “amiibo” and then “Store Dungeon” to save the file onto the amiibo.
That basically covers the use of amiibos within Link’s Awakening. Some players expected there to be a greater real-world impact on the actual adventure since other games focus on that. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, for instance, players can use all amiibos from every series once per day to receive a chest. Certain amiibos unlocked better rewards, such as Epona, or Wolf Link. However, some players considered that a bit extreme, as the number of items given could reach ridiculous levels with enough amiibos.
Amiibo usage in other games often provides cosmetic items from the Zelda series. In The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim for the Switch, players could use certain amiibos to unlock gear that would allow a player to dress up as Link.
While the use of amiibos in Link’s Awakening may feel a bit underwhelming, the plus side is that players will not need to have a stack of amiibo figures nearby to cycle through every day for some minor reward as they often did for Breath of the Wild.
