WATER TEMPERATURE SANIBEL

TODAY, MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2022

The effects of Water Temperature

Fish are cold blooded, which means their metabolism is strongly influenced by the temperature of their surrounding environment. Fish want to stay comfortable. Consequently, even a small change or break will cause fish to move from one location to another.

In general, this behavior varies for each species and place, so we can not specify an ideal water temperature, however as a general rule we will try to avoid the temperatures abnormally cold in summer and too warm in winter. Remember, look for the comfort zones and you will find the fish.

Current Temperature   air / water

OCTOBER 17, 2022, 2:29pm

Water temperature plays an important role in the behavior of fish. When the water is cold, fish are lethargic and inactive, and the same happens if the water is too hot.

At this moment the current water temperature in Sanibel is -. The average water temperature in Sanibel today is -.

SWELL SANIBEL

TODAY, MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2022

Significant wave height

It is normal for waves to vary in height from one to the next. To give you an idea of the range of waves to expect at a given time, we consider the significant wave height as the average height of the highest third of the waves in the open sea.

The significant wave height provides an estimation of wave heights recorded by a trained observer from a fixed point at sea because we tend to pay more attention to the larger waves.

Current wave conditions

OCTOBER 17, 2022, 2:29pm

Wave direction - (-°)

Wave period -

Most frequent waves

The most frequent wave height will be about half the height of the significant wave.

Significant height

About 14% of waves will be higher than the significant wave height (about 1 in every 7 waves).

Maximum waves

It is normal to expect a wave of twice the height of the significant wave about 3 times in 24 hours.

This means at this moment you need to be prepared for a wave of - before heading out on the water.

The following graph shows the progression of the tidal coefficient in the month of October of 2022.These values give us a rough idea of the tidal amplitude in Sanibel, forecast in October.

Large coefficients indicate important high and low tides; major currents and movements usually take place on the sea bed. But bear in mind that this tidal amplitude may be greatly affected by the weather and you should also consult the weather forecast in Sanibel, the wind in Sanibel and the surf forecast in Sanibel before you go fishing.

SOLUNAR ACTIVITY SANIBEL

TODAY, MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2022

SOLUNAR ACTIVITY: HIGH

According to the solunar theory, today is a good day for fishing, the fish activity forecast is high.

The best times of day for fishing are:

MAJOR PERIODS

from 6:19am to 8:19am

Lunar transit (moon up)

This period of high activity coincides with sunrise; therefore the sun will exercise more influence, resulting in an excellent time for fishing.

from 6:46pm to 8:46pm

Opposing lunar transit (moon down)

This period of high activity coincides with sunset; therefore the sun will exercise more influence, resulting in an excellent time for fishing.

MINOR PERIODS

from 2:00 pm to 3:00pm

Moonset

The solunar periods indicate the best times of day for fishing in Sanibel. The major periods correspond to the lunar transit (passage of the moon over the meridian) and the opposing lunar transit and last approximately 2 hours. The minor periods begin with the rising and setting of the moon and its duration is approximately 1 hour.

When the solunar period coincides with sunrise or sunset, we can expect more activity than initially planned. These peak periods are reflected in green. We additionally point out in the chart the periods of greatest activity during the year with a big blue fish on the period bar + info

How far in advance can you tell the tide?

How far ahead can the tide be predicted? As we know the position of the Moon and the Sun very accurately, we are able to compute the tides many years ahead (or into the past). Are there always two high tides a day? No.

What is the tide schedule for Sanibel?

October 2022 Sanibel Tides.

How do you calculate mid tide?

The rule of twelfths works like this; take the difference in height between the high and low tide on that day, and divide that by 12 equal chunks.

What time is low tide on Sanibel beach?

The tide is currently rising in Sanibel. As you can see on the tide chart, the highest tide of 2.62ft will be at 3:12am and the lowest tide of 0.33ft will be at 11:42am.
