Year Purchased: 2013 SoundThis is a solid fiddle for a beginner I think, based on my experience with other stringed instruments. The sound is bright and full as the nicely arched thick maple body would suggest. It has a fairly heavy lamination, which may dampen it a bit- as a novice I really can't distinguish, but an immediate improvement over a cheap chinese fiddle. Sound Rating: 7 Setup The Rothenberg was fully set up when it arrived- the pegs took a bit of working in the first several days- whenever the pegs popped out of tune, I loosened the string and tried to work the pegs in by turning them around the hole arches with a slight inward pressure. The violin was holding tune much better after a few days, and has no proiblems with this now The pegs have settled about 1/16 of an inch short of being flush with the far side of the peg
box- all are even so it appears all has been cut precisely.. Setup Rating: 8 Appearance The fiddle is all maple, with a warm syrypy overtone and medfium flame marking on the back, with the name "ROTHENBERG" stamped up at the top of the back. The inlaid purfling is EXCELLENT and grain patterns extend from the body into it. Some of the best purfling I've seen anywhere near this price, Appearance Rating: 8 Reliability I've played guitar for years and have owned several classical and steel string guitars and a banjo. I've been quite pleased with the Rothenberg violin from the start. If it was a guitar , I'd say it's a very playable solid instrument that might sell in the $150- to $250 guitar range. Not junk. Reliability Rating: 7 Customer ServiceThis was advertisedas a German fiddle. I think I believe it- definitely a large improvement over a cheap Chinese fiddle I got a few weeks before for $37. Yet I like fiddling so much I knew I had to have a better one, and I found a great one for under $100! I paid only $79.99 when I ordered the Celtic version, but this one was priced at $89.99. Customer Service: 7 Components This fiddle has large metal tuners on all the strings- the fiddle I ordered had an alloy tailpiece with smaller tuners and I thought these might be clunky when they sent the wrong
one- I really like them now, the fiddle looks like it means business! And the tuners work well Components Rating: 8 Overall Comments As a novice fiddler, I'm very pleased with the Rothenberg Flame back violin- I doubt that you could find a better fiddle new for under $100. I was actually sent the wrong fiddle- I'd ordered a Rothenberg Celtic fiddle, of lighter wood, and actually listed at $10 cheaper than the Flame back I recieved, but after much
much deliberation on my part as to which one to order. So I was just inclined to keep then the more expensiove one that came. I love it now! Overall Rating: 8

Is a copy of a Stradivarius worth anything?Anywhere from $50 to $50,000 depending on its maker. The vast majority of violins are copies of some Stradivarius or another; most aren't marked as such. (In fact, I suspect many violin makers don't realize that the shapes they're using were created by careful measurement of a Stradivarius.)
Which Stradivarius violin is the best? The Lady Blunt Stradivari
But until then, this noble violin remains at the top, since it reached the best price at auction: the "Lady Blunt" Stradivari from 1721. This masterpiece scored the princely sum of about 11.6 million euros at a charity auction.
How do I know if my Stradivarius violin is real? The Label – To really know if it's an original one you can always identify it in the instrument's label. Stradivari's violins always had a label that read “Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno”, followed by the year they were made.
Can Stradivarius violins be replicated?A Stradivarius violin has been "recreated" using an X-ray scanner normally used to detect cancers and injuries, according to researchers. The US-based group used a computerised axial tomography (CAT) scanner on the 307-year-old instrument to reveal its secrets.
