Can I drive in TX without a hood?

I need to pickup a hood at the greyhound station about 3 miles from my house (on local roads). Since I dont have a truckI was thinking about driving over with no hood and bolting on the new on. Is that kosher in TX?

Thanks,
Chris

I think even if it is not, just tell the cop what you are doing and you will probably get off.

you should be fine for the 3 miles and as said above 98% of officers will understand the story.

I"ve dirven a 450whp 89' civic race car on public roads while it was being tuned and had no hood no bumpers no harnesses and a open downpipe for about 10 miles and no one was the wiser.

your talking about three miles, so I don't see you having much a problem unless you are driving like a madman and drawing the wrong attention to you.

I drove around for months at a time, without the front bumper on my car, never had a problem for that. Just got pulled over for the missing from license plate twice will the front end was gone.

I would just bring that hood home and install it.....as much as I like talking to homeless people, getting mugged and stabbed at the downtown Dallas Greyhound station.

Why is driving without a hood illegal? Does a hood make a big difference in the crash worthiness of a car?

it cant possibly be illegal...i dont understand how a motorcycle, with an exposed engine is legit but a car with no hood isnt...same thing almost.

Nah, its not that big

The bumper opening makes it look huge though. I fit it perfectly in there so that it ends exactly where the bumper covers. It likes to eat small children

it isn't illegal

you can drive with out the hood no problem.

Don't worry because there isn't a specific law saying you can't drive shirtless in Texas. However, keep in mind that, in certain situations, your lack of a shirt can be considered indecent exposure.

Is it illegal to not have a bonnet?

Yes this would be illegal. Not just for sharp edges but also for exposed belts and moving engine components.

Is it illegal to drive without a bumper?

Is it illegal to drive a car without a front and rear bumper? The answer is yes. It is illegal as it does not only cause traffic jams but also puts the driver at risk for lots of problems. If the bumper has jagged edges, it could make one's vehicle illegal to drive or operate on main roads.
