Being natural often means a lot of trial and error, especially if you’re just starting out. You go through a lot of hit-or-miss in trying which products work best for you. It can be a strenuous and tiring process, not to mention an expensive one. Even more, it's hard to know which products from a specific company will get the job done - since different collections are usually formulated for different things.

Camille Rose Naturals (CRN) is a well-known company that has been raved about throughout the natural hair community. Just like most companies, they have some products that will change your life and some products that are not so effective.

I stumbled upon Camille Rose Naturals looking for some products that would level up my moisture game. With 4a/4b hair, my hair is prone to dryness. With a plan to find the best products for ultimate moisture and definition, CRN left me pleasantly surprised.

Reasons to Love Camille Rose Naturals

First, Camille Rose Naturals is a black-owned business! Founded by Janell Stephens, mother of five, CRN was created as a means to cure her children’s chronic eczema.

What began as a few recipes she brewed in her kitchen, quickly turned into a multi-million dollar company with a mission to create totally clean beauty products with that high-end feel. All CRN products are made with all-natural ingredients! If you are the type of person who likes to be able to read what ingredients you are actually putting into yourself, these products are meant for you.

If that isn’t enough, these sweet-smelling recipes are bottled in absolutely adorable packaging that make these products scream beauty and curl love.

As with most products, every product from CRN is not the most effective, especially with tighter curl patterns prone to frizz and dryness. As a girl with coily, low porosity hair, I have compiled a list of some of the best products Camille Rose Naturals has to offer that will optimize the hydration and moisture levels of your mane.

  Curl Love Moisture Milk

Described as “a softening leave-in conditioning creme,” this moisture milk is infused with gourmet ingredients such as rice milk, macadamia seed oil, and elm bark to smooth the hair shaft and seal in moisture.

Pros

This product delivers on its promise to soften your tresses. Although it does have a thicker texture, it perfectly conditions and seals moisture into your hair follicles. Paired with the Curl Maker, this product will produce nourished and defined coils. Or, use it as a step in the LOC method with the Almond Jai Twisting Butter for a moisturized twist-out or braid-out. Plus, this creamy conditioner has the sweet scent of vanilla and almond, making it almost as delicious as it is powerful.

Cons

Although described as a leave-in, you must be careful not to be too heavy handed with this product, as it will end up weighing your hair down.

Almond Jai Twisting Butter

Part of the signature collection from CRN, the Almond Jai Twisting Butter is an award-winning product that remains the company’s most popular recipe to date!

Pros

I use this product paired with Moisture Milk to style my twist-outs and I must say this is one of my holy grails from this company. This twisting butter leaves my hair noticeably moisturized for up to 3 days without any refreshing. It leaves my curls feeling soft and, whenever I use it, my hair doesn’t shrink as much as it does with other styling crèmes. Plus, it smells like almond milk with hints of vanilla; an added bonus!

Cons

Much like the Curl Maker, this twisting butter is relatively expensive; I paid near $20 for my 8oz. Jar. It did end up lasting me several months with mild use, but if you have thicker tresses and need to use more product to achieve a style, this may vanish quickly.

Coconut Water Setting Styler

An honorable mention from the company’s coconut water collection, this style setter is part of a set specifically formulated for hydrating curls and coils alike.

Pros

Much like the twisting butter, the Coconut Water Style Setter is a must-have for my curls. If your hair is anything like mine (and loves coconut water), this product will work wonders for you. Every time I use this, my hair is always super hydrated and silky and frizz-free for days (which can be a big problem for me).

Cons

While not as thick as the Almond Jai Twisting Butter, too much of this product (even the smallest overdose) can weigh down your hair and lengthen your drying time.
