HBO Max includes more movies than what you get through HBO on TV, some original content, and TV shows like "Friends" you can't find on other competing platforms like Disney+, Netflixor Hulu.

HBO Max also has offline downloads, so you can store movies to watch when you don't have a cellular or Wi-Fi connection -- that feature is not available in the regular HBO Go app, which is free for people who pay for HBO through a cable subscriber.

More than 70 cable networks and online TV services seem to have made deals with WarnerMedia and offer free access to HBO Max if you already pay for HBO, including AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum, Optimum, Disney's Hulu TV, Google's YouTube TV,  AppleTV, AlticeOne, Comcastand more.

Here's how to see if you can get HBO Max through the HBO subscription you already pay for.

• Download HBO Max for Android or iPhone.
• From the main screen, tap the icon that looks like a person on the bottom right.

Log-in with your cable subscriber.

• Select "Sign in through TV or mobile provider."
• Choose your cable or wireless provider. If it's not listed, you'll need to pay for HBO Max separately.

That's it. Now you're be logged in to HBO Max and can access the additional movies and TV shows it offers without having to pay a new HBO subscription.

Again, this doesn't apply to everyone. I am a Comcast subscriber, for example, and can't access it. But, since I also pay for HBO through Apple TV, I was able to use that log-in for access to HBO Max.

The great thing about Comcast’s Xfinity is that your home is probably already connected to their service and just awaiting activation. It’s easy to get HBO on Comcast because it’s included (sometimes for free) with many of the bundles you’re going to be offered when you call in. Add HBO to Your Existing Xfinity/Comcast Plan

If you’re already a subscriber to Xfinity or Comcast you can either call the above number to upgrade or just login at Xfinity.com and choose “Manage Your Plan” towards the bottom of the page.

From there you’ll be able to add or remove any number of channels from your plan. You’ll probably do what I did and login to cancel something only to end up subscribing to RedZone, Starz and Cinemax too!  Login here to add HBO to your existing Xfinity account.

Wait for a Special Free HBO Preview Week or Weekend from Comcast

They announce them on Facebook and other social media platforms so if you’re trying to stay on top of the free HBO weekends from Xfinity that might be the most direct feed.  These happen several times per year often as traditional TV seasons begin (~January, April and September)!

Add HBO to a non-Xfinity Streaming Account

Perhaps, in this age of cheap online streaming services you’re not looking to sign up for a classic Comcast cable package that includes HBO.  That’s fine, there are a ton of other options out there to try. You can add HBO to your Amazon, Sling or Hulu Live account for about the same price as adding to to your Xfinity plan. They also offer free HBO weekends and deals as well.

However you choose to add HBO to your Xfinity plan be sure to utilize the streaming app associated with your account. For Comcast/Xfinity users you’ll get an HBOGo login and password that matches your normal Xfinity login.
