Download Photos from Shutterfly

You can either download each image that you want to transfer individually or you can download multiple images together.

Downloading A Single Image

• Open Shutterfly and go to All Photos.
• Click the desired image to highlight it.
• Look for a black action bar at the top and select the cloud symbol (Download) in it.

Downloading Multiple Images

• You can select a maximum of 500 photos or videos that you wish to download together.
• Look for the download symbol in the black action bar at the top. Click this symbol.
• Shutterfly will send you an email on your registered email address with a link from where you can download a ZIP file that contains all your selected media content. Depending on how many images/videos you earlier selected, there could be more than one ZIP file.
• Once you have download the ZIP file, open it with any compatible software app like WinZip.
• Extract the files and save them to a suitable location on your computer.

Note: Please remember that the above-mentioned download methods only work for downloading Shutterfly content via your computer/ laptop. If you wish to download them via the Shutterfly phone app, you will have to download each image individually.

Upload Images to Google Photos

• Go to Google Photos and log in.
• On the right side of the action bar at the top, there will be an Upload button. Click it.
• Select photos/videos from your computer by browsing to their location on the hard disk.
• Once you’ve selected the concerning media file(s), click Open and the uploading will begin instantly.

Upload photos to Shutterfly

There are two ways to add images from Google Photos or another linked service / device. You can select a particular project (cards, prints, calendars, etc.) or upload images directly to the website. Here’s what to do.

Note: The advice below is for users who have already opened Shutterfly and are logged into their accounts.

After logging in, click on My Photos in the top right corner. This will take you to the image manager window where you can preview all photos, albums, and memories. Click the Cloud icon next to the search box to upload more photos.

There are five options to choose from under the Uploads window. Click on Google Photos and select “Connect to Google Photos” to link your account. Once you’ve granted Shutterfly access, you’ll see All Photos and Albums side by side.

Browse your images, click the images you want to use and click Upload button once you are done. It takes a few seconds for the images to upload and appear in My Photos.

Using other social media sites

Just like with Google Photos, just click on Facebook or Instagram to grant Shutterfly access and select the photos you want to upload. It’s worth noting that Shutterfly has made the access and verification process really easy. You are just two or three clicks away from linking each social media account.

Upload images from your computer

This Computer is the first option under Uploads, along with the ‘Choose Photos’ and ‘Choose Folders’ options buttons. These will take you to the local storage, but you don’t have to worry about the buttons. Choose up the images or folders you want to use and drag them into the window.

Most importantly, Shutterfly only supports JPEG or JPG formats when you upload them from your computer. In other words, PNG and RAW images are a no-go, so make sure to reformat the photos before uploading them.

Uploads of projects

If you’re in a hurry, you don’t need to upload photos first. Select a new project and then choose the images. Choose up a specific project / template from the menu bar and continue from there.

For the purposes of this article, we have selected socks from the Gifts category. But the principle is the same for any other option: you choose an item, select a template / design you like and click Personalize. The latter can differ if you also want a pair of custom socks.

The photos and ‘Add photos’ buttons are usually located at the bottom of the screen. Click on it and you will be taken to the upload window. To add images from Google Photos, select this option under Social sites, choose the images and they will be automatically added to your project.

Moreover, you also get quick access to recent uploads, all photos, albums and art library.

A side note

The main highlights of Shutterfly are the image search and sort options. The search bar allows you to search for photos by name and choose between small and large thumbnails. In addition, the ‘Sort by’ menu makes it easy to switch between ‘Recording date’ and ‘Upload date’. One of the things that Google Photos has yet to include in their app.

How to Use the Shutterfly app

At first glance, the Shutterfly app doesn’t seem to connect to Google Photos and other linked sites / services. When you tap Photos, images from your smartphone will be displayed; the same happens when you tap Upload. But don’t write off the app just yet.

Select Shop at the bottom left of the screen and choose one of the product categories. This time we tested it with photo books from Shutterfly. By default, the Local Photos app opens and a little down arrow reveals other connected services.

Tap Google Photos and sign in to access the images. From then on, the process is the same as previously described. Tap the photos to select them and click upload button, and the images will be included in your project.

Shutterfly Memories

Both the app and the desktop Shutterfly feature a Reminders tab that is similar to, for example, the tab on Facebook. Basically, Shutterfly keeps an eye on your uploads and analyzes the images to create memories.

These are clusters of images based on location, people, or the date they were taken. You can use them as inspiration for family photo books, calendars and more.
