Video doorbells, like Amazon’s Ring Video Doorbell, are great for homeowners who are looking for added security. Most doorbell mounts, however, require tools and drilling to install. Of course, if you’re a renter or live in a dorm, that’s probably not gonna fly with your landlord. But don’t fret, there’s a solution.

This no-drill Doorbell Boa doorbell mount simply clips onto your door. It sounds almost too easy — but really, that’s it. In fact, the mount has become so popular on TikTok, it’s sold out on Amazon several times.

The Doorbell Boa wraps around a door’s edge, so when the door is shut, no one can remove it. However, to attach it, you must have a swinging door that’s no more than two inches thick. The mount comes with foam inserts that you can adjust for snug fit.

Now, you may be thinking, what would stop someone from just running off with your video doorbell? Well, its anti-theft lock holds onto it tight, so you don’t have to worry about local pranksters or actual thieves snatching it.

The Doorbell Boa is compatible with battery-operated video doorbells. Those include the Ring 1, Ring 2, Ring 3, Arlo, Blink and Eufy video doorbells. It will also work with any other video doorbells that are a maximum of four inches wide, 6.5 inches tall and 1.75 inches thick.

And if you move apartments, you can easily take your video doorbell and Doorbell Boa with you.

Over 1,000 Amazon shoppers give the Doorbell Boa 5 out of 5 stars, with some saying “this product blew [them] away.”

“Perfect for renters!” wrote one Amazon reviewer, who said they live in a rented apartment. “Let me tell you — this is the best idea ever! It fits the door well and protects the ring from being stolen or messed with. I’m able to feel protected and able to watch out for my Amazon packages! 11/10 recommended!!”

“So impressed! I saw this on TikTok and thought I would give it a try,” wrote another Amazon reviewer. “Installation was a breeze — although, it can just be a little difficult placing it on the door, as you do need some strength to open it wide enough to slip over the door. I definitely recommend this product.”

The Doorbell Boa retails for $39.99 on Amazon. Considering the benefits — like peace of mind and the likelihood of getting your security deposit back — it’s worth every penny.

There are lots of video doorbells that need to be hardwired, which means you will need to replace an existing doorbell to power them. However, Ring has a battery-powered doorbell that can be installed anywhere. Here’s how to install a Ring doorbell without an existing doorbell, and how to charge your doorbell.

Without wiring, your Ring doorbell will not have a power source. Therefore, the first thing that Ring recommends you need to do is fully charge the battery.

How to Charge a Ring Doorbell

  1. Remove the battery from the bottom of the Ring doorbell.
  2. Plug the Ring doorbell battery to a power source using the orange USB cable. The battery will be fully charged if the light on top turns green, and there is no orange light.

  3. Insert the battery back into the Ring device.

The battery should last at least 6 months, depending on how often the doorbell is used. To avoid downtime, you can purchase a 2nd battery to keep as a replacement.

How to Install a Ring Doorbell without an Existing Doorbell

Now that you know how to charge your Ring doorbell’s battery, you can proceed to installing the doorbell. Follow the steps below:

  1. Insert the level tool into the front of your Ring device. You will need to do this before you add the faceplate. The level tool is included in the Install Tools box. It is a small orange bar with some fluid inside.

  2. Using the level tool, position the Ring Doorbell where you want it installed. You want the device to be around 4 feet off the ground (at chest height). The bubble in the level tool should be dead center.

  3. Mark off the mounting holes using a pencil. This step is only necessary if you are installing your Ring video doorbell on stucco, brick, or concrete. For this kind of installation, you will need to use the provided bit to drill a hole into your wall. Then insert the provided anchors into the holes.

  4. Screw your Ring doorbell into the wall.
  5. Place the faceplate on the Ring video doorbell. Insert the top of the faceplate at an angle and slot it into place until it clicks. Make sure that you remove the level tool first.
