How to sign up for Amazon Prime Student

To switch your membership or sign up for Amazon Prime Student, you'll need a valid .edu email. Navigate to the Prime Student page and login or sign up.

From there, Amazon will ask for an intended graduation year. If you're an active student with access to your university email, this offer is open to you.

If you don't have a .edu email address, you can sign up using an alternate form of proof of enrollment like a school ID card or an up-to-date transcript.

How much does Amazon Prime Student cost?

Amazon Prime Student costs $7.49 a month, after a free six-month trial. That's half the monthly cost of a normal Prime membership ($15/month).

Qualifying existing Prime members can also switch to the cheaper Student plan — they'll just receive a refund for the remaining months left on their current Prime subscription.

JPMorgan estimates that an Amazon Prime membership is actually worth $785 annually. We consider a standard Amazon Prime subscription to be an excellent deal, but the discounted rate and benefits offered to Amazon Prime Students make it a no-brainer.

Benefits of Amazon Prime Student

Amazon Prime Student includes the all the benefits of a standard Prime membership: free next-day or two-day shipping on more than 100 million eligible items, unlimited streaming of many popular movies and TV shows, unlimited photo storage, 30-minute early access to select Amazon Lightning Deals, and unlimited access to over a thousand books on Prime Reading.

Plus, Amazon has deals on back-to-school shopping for college essentials such as tech and dorm items. You can find them all in Amazon's Off to College store, with many items eligible for free Prime next-day or two-day shipping.

An Amazon Prime Student subscription adds several bonus perks. And for students who are back in school, Amazon has useful offers for food delivery, relaxation tools, travel, and homework help:

  • Six months of LinkedIn Premium free (normally a one-month trial), then starts at $30 a month
  • Three months of Calm for free (normally a seven-day trial), then $9 per year
  • One month of Course Hero for free, then $10 per month
  • Up to 10% off already-discounted flights and hotels from StudentUniverse plus free premium customer support with every booking (an $8 value)

Prime Student subscribers also have access to these ongoing exclusive offers for college students, including:

  • Showtime for 99 cents per month for up to one year (reg. $11 a month)
  • Epix, Allblk, Lifetime Movie Club, and more channels for 99 cents each per month (reg. up to $11 a month)
  • Amazon Music Unlimited for 99 cents per month (reg. $9 a month with Prime)
  • Two months of Kindle Unlimited for free (normally 30 days free)
  • Up to 90% off college textbooks, which can be traded for an Amazon Gift Card later
