How much does a hardtop for a jeep wrangler cost

About our Jeep Wrangler JK, LJ, & TJ Hardtops

Although the Jeep Wrangler was primarily designed as a rugged all-terrain vehicle, it’s design has such broad appeal that it has become common to see the vehicle used only on city streets and highways. To that end, many consumers have looked to certain options that can increase their comfort and safety while driving. Jeep hard tops offer drivers more safety and a quieter ride by providing greater protection from outside elements and requiring less maintenance.

Choosing A Quality Jeep TJ Hard Top or LJ or JK

At BullDawgMfg.com we have close to 50 years of experience working with fiberglass. That extensive experience translates into our design and manufacturing of a superior Jeep TJ hardtop. Made with the finest marine grade fiberglass, the Jeep hardtop we offer provides greater insulation and longer lasting protection than many of those built by our competitors

Our parent company MBW (McLaughlin Boat Works) has been a leader in the manufacture of sailboats for 50 years. We take pride in each of our new endeavors and the creation of our Jeep hard top is no exception. Designed to fit perfectly with Jeep Wrangler models from 1997-2005, we also offer our customers additional options such as our Jeep Wrangler half doors. Working together, both of these elements combine to improve the overall comfort and safety of your vehicle.

We have paid close attention to the design of our Jeep tops, ensuring that they remain quick and easy to install and remove. Specifically, the Jeep hard top we manufacture does not require any drilling or cutting for installation. With no need for tools, simply follow the included step-by-step instructions to install the top within minutes.

Ordering a Jeep tj hard top (or LJ or JK) is as simple as a few clicks of a mouse. Our website was designed to streamline the ordering process, offering all the necessary information. Nevertheless, if you feel the need for additional information or do not feel comfortable using our secure server, our sales associates may be contacted directly via email or our toll free phone number. Most importantly, since you are buying directly from the manufacturer, you are saving a substantial amount of money.

Bought a 4 door 15 with a soft top. Originally wanted the hard top but then I passed because it would lose the effect of the jeep experience unless removing it etc.

Dealership said a new one is $2800

Since I will casually keep my eye open for one now on CL and other places:

1) what's the average price on a used one? (4 door version)
2) are all wranglers pre-wired for wiper and defrost mode on the hard top?
3) is #2 an extra cost to consider and if so, I take it there would be a wiring part number one would need to purchase.
4) is there a difference between all years available with a 4 door hard top? (Thicker design, ribs for strength, wiper placement changes etc.)
5) if so, certain years or style to stay away from?
6) if painting a black hard top (silver in my case) what has a body shop out there charged you if you have done the same step?
7) are there aftermarket hard tops that are poorly designed that one should stay away from, and conversely those that are good to look for?

I just sold my 4 door hardtop from my 2014, it was in like new condition because I barely ever used it. I originally listed it for $2000, not one single bite at that price. I lowered the price twice, eventually taking $1300 for it. They guy who bought it put it on a 2007. We only had to take off two small pieces (bolts) to make it fit. His 2007 was not wired for the wiper, but he said he would be wiring it for it.

As stated above the average price is a couple under above or below $1500. I bought a slightly damaged one for $450 and it had worked great and the damage has not gotten any worse. My jeep was not ore wired for the rear wiper and I opted not to do it and I have not even needed or missed it. There is a wiring harness and a new level that goes on your steering column to replace the one there now that controls the wipers. When I priced out adding it to mine it was going to be about $500 for the install at my local dealership.. Saved $500 and glad I did

If your jeep came from factory with a hard top then it will be wired already. If not, that's an extra step and cost (if you choose to do it)

If you get a regular black (not painted) hard top and would like it to be body color, that certainly takes extra work as the non painted tops are textured and would need to be sanded smooth for a body colored paint to look acceptable

I think the pricing here seems about right. Usually listed $1500-2000 but in my experience watching them sell they go for somewhere around $1300 depending on age, condition, time of year (lower prices on hard tops in the summer) and motivation of seller.

I paid 1k for my hard top. Jeep is a 14 and the top is off a 2011. I have not done the wiring yet and probably wont. Defrost would be nice but so far not the end of the world.

In reality most jeeps come with the hardtop from the factory (atleast thats my observation) and unless damaged they dont degrade like a softtop.
So prices shouldnt be that strong. 1200 to 1500 is the going rate around me, although you can drop on them cheaper.

Have a look to see if you jeep has the wiring and washer pipe, you never know quite what parts are fitted.
They would be clipped in the rear lefthand corner of the trunk area.

The hardtop with the removable panels is really good but as impractical as it is practical. The panels are bulky and easily damaged.
I put mine on for the snow/winter but always glad to put the softtop back on. Another really good bit of design, if again slightly tough to use.

i paid 1200 for a hard top for my 2015 JKU. Came off a 2012 JKU i think. 1200 was a good price in my area, Southern New England.

ask for the nuts or be prepared to buy for another ~$40 (MOPAR 55397093AC - MOPAR® Hardtop Nut with Clip for 07-16 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec)

you will need a wiring kit to activate the defrost/wiper/washer. ~ $160 + install. 2 hour install @ a dealer or DIY. dealer still has to activate it on the computer so could be a few $$ regardless of DIY. there are diff kits depending on which options your jeep.

you'll need a place to store your hard top when you switch back to soft. either a lift or a cart. cart can be done pretty cheep if you have a place to stand it up in your garage.

I've seen them listed on CL for about $1500. I see more 2 doors than 4 doors. Not sure what they sold for. And you will have to add wiring and controls for the rear stuff if you want to use it.

I'm not sure which year but I've read that at some year they changed the freedom panels. Something about the location of the anchor that attaches it to the windshield.

Painting it to match will require someone that is skilled in fiberglass type body work. Lots of sanding and smoothing needed even before the cost of the paint job. If you are ok with black, I'd just stick with that. If you want to have the body work done and paint it, you probably wont come out cheaper than just buying it from the dealer by the time it's all said and done.

I know its too late now, but I always recommend to people that are on the fence to buy the hard top if they don't want to get both and think they might want both later. It's only $1k to get the hard top at the time of purchase. (according to the jeep site) And its much cheaper to get a soft top later than to add a hard top. Hard top will also be easier to sell if you decide you don't want it.

If it were me, I'd get one on CL for $1500, pop it on and forget about the rest. I almost never use my wiper or defrost. And I don't think the body matched color is worth the effort or cost. But then I don't like the matched ones anyway. Although my jeep is black with the textured black top, so I guess it's kinda matched.

This is correct. I have an 08 and bought a 12 hard top off CL for 1200. Had to reposition the anchor and also had to drill a hole in the side tub of the jeep to accept this little knob located on the bottom of the hardtop. Agree about the wiper. Mine was already wired so I plug it in, but hardly ever use the wiper. Occasionally the defrost.

I paid $1200 for a year old hard top from a member, the wiring harness was $137. I still have not installed it yet. I asked the dealer how much to install and they wanted $825 to install it and flash it. I'll install it myself and have them flash it.

Are you talking about the knob at the front of the top on either side? I wonder if non hard tops just don't have the hole or if they changed it. I have an 09 which has it. Its helpful in lining it up since I do it by myself. But you could just remove that knob from the top.

I bought my hard top for 1500 on Craigslist. My husband bought the wiring harness for around 200. It took him a couple hours on Saturday to install he had to take the whole dash apart and rewire a bunch of stuff

Where are you located? I just posed one for sale from my 2015. It's like new, I've only had the jeep for a little over 2 months.

How much does it cost to put a hardtop on a Jeep Wrangler?

On a normal Wrangler a hard top cost is $1195.00 Am thinking that the hard top for the Gladiator should cost less since it's a shorter top, does not go back over the luggage area. And yes it's got a sliding center back window. Guessing it may be a $1000.00 option'for just a black one, not same body color.

Can you add a hardtop to a Jeep Wrangler?

The Wrangler's ability to shed its doors and roof offers owners aB truly unique experience. Unlike all other types of convertibles, Jeeps are capable of turning from a soft top to a hardtop and back again, all through a simple process.

Does Jeep sell hard tops?

OPEN UP THE FUN AND SUN. The Sunrider® for hardtop gives you the best of both worlds—quick access to fresh air and sun along with the premium weather protection of a high-strength hardtop.

Is Jeep hard top worth it?

Advantages of a Hardtop They're solid and can withstand significant damage that would normally tear through a soft top. That means they'll last longer overall, so you won't have to deal with as much maintenance. Insulation: Driving with a soft top in the winter can make it difficult to keep your Wrangler warm.
