my first customer service experience

One of my first jobs, hired as a host, I was first introduced to the importance of verbal communications with a total stranger. After all, we were the first people guests see when they came through the doors. Everyone that worked here always tried to make the best of every night, not wanting anyone to be in a bad mood, because in reality that starts to bring everyone down. So even when we had a 45 minute wait with all of these people disgruntled starring our way, we managed to stay happy instead of letting the little things get to us. The Roadhouse started to allow me other opportunities after only a few months of working. Very kind managment, who wanted everyone to never get "bored" with their jobs. They never made me do something different, they always asked, "Would you like to be a food runner this weekend." Well absolutely. I quickly learned moving my feet was much better than just standing at the door. Running around the restaurant, to the kitchen, and then back again, it made the night go by so much faster. I was never looking at the clock when they allowed me to help. Overall it was a great start for learning all there is to know about customer service.

Extreme under-staffing and low pay

A typical day at work looks like severe under staffing, long hours, stress, and a toxic bulldozing environment. The pay is not nearly enough for all the work a simple host will do during one shift. Very disorganized and management is subpar at best. If you want to make barely a decent amount, you will have to go into OT every week. This is extremely taxing on its young employees. There is no work life balance at Texas Roadhouse and you must work yourself into the ground for opportunities to be cross trained. The most enjoyable part will be the people you form bonds and connections with. There is also covert discrimination with the employees, so beware. I would NOT recommend working here to a young adult or a high schooler. 2/10 experience working here at best.

Management was awful, showed favoritism constantly and fired hard working employees constantly over minor transgressions (calling in because of a funeral, for instance) while allowing other employees who typically did not work as hard as others to basically get away with murder. Pay and compensation is a joke. You're expected to work your backside off for less than $3 an hour plus tip share, which essentially levels out to become minimum wage but they do take out of your check every week for some other stuff so really you make no money. The only good parts of this job were the friends I made along the way and the 30% discount.

The atmosphere is amazing and the people working are so pleasant.

Texas roadhouse is definitely a family oriented place to work and visit. The servers, bussers, BOH, and FOH teams were always there for each other and were always able to lend a hand. The downside to working there was the favoritism toward employees who held either seniority or charm. The favoritism showed throughout management was showed through scheduling and work advancement. My roadhouse family will always have a special place in my heart.

Pros30% off of meals if you come alone or with immediate family.

ConsVery little breaks were available, the schedules were not as flexible.

productive and fun place with great leadership from management.

I have been working here from almost two years and I love it here at Texas roadhouse. I have worked my way up from bussing tables to to-go and expo. I know the place like the back of my hand. I am also a certified trainer for all positions I know.

ProsOn the house meals when training, 30% employee discount on food. Line dancing every night. The managers treat us like real people.

Consthey do have benefits for only full-time workers.

Great management and friendly but pay isn’t worth it

I enjoyed my time working at Roadhouse and I got along well with the staff. I made a lot of close friends and the managers were always there for their employees. Despite that, the pay isn’t much for all the work put in. I stayed for awhile because it wasn’t like most work places and it was very comfortable. But being paid so little for the work we do and customers we deal with didn’t feel worth all of that comfortableness

Great lively place to work

Fun and lively environment. Never a dull moment working at Texas Roadhouse. Every break you got a basket of rolls and all the cinnamon butter you could eat. Absolutely loved this job. The worst thing about this place was when my manager did not believe I wasn’t going to a funeral and fired me the next day before I was to be in for work. Pathetic ignorance from that manager, I hope she no longer works there

Place where you can not only make money but make yourself a better person

I went in not thinking i would last more than a year. Here I am almost 3 years later and still finding no issue getting in my car and driving to work when I'm scheduled to go. I made more than money here, I've made a few friendships that I know will out last my time here, and for that I have to thank Texas RoadHouse.

management was unprofessional, tip share wasn't accurate

Good for scheduling if you couldn't work certain days you can let them know and the won't schedule you when you first get hired or let them know 2 weeks in advance. Management was unprofessional with the way they handled situations. and tip share was never right you make minimum wage when you were told you would make more as a busser or host during the interview/online.

Fun hard working family

Texas Roadhouse was a wonderful job opportunity that taught be may lessons for my future. I enjoyed working there, the environment, coworkers, and livelihood of the work place was fun and a great learning experience for me to begin adult hood, while in community college.
