Rapidly declining job satisfaction

I’ve been with H-E-B for a hot minute now and while I would have undoubtedly given a 5 star rating when I started a few years back, I really can’t do that now. I feel like management (as far as the central checkout department goes anyways) is amazing, cares for partners on a personal level, and truly wants to see us succeed. As for top store leadership and above, I honestly can’t tell anymore. H-E-B has gotten incredibly cheap in more ways than one...and I’m not talking about prices. There’s been a noticeable change in the availability of our supplies. Things like paper/wine bags we never really had in abundance anyway but now we’re lucky to have them one week out of the month. This is frustrating because it seems more common for customers to request these items than they did in the past and when we explain that we’re out, they ultimately just think they’re dealing with a lazy cashier/bagger who doesn’t want to go the extra mile to provide good service. And lately, it seems like we’re having to fight harder than Sofia in The Color Purple just to have regular PLASTIC bags available to us, as well as receipt paper. These are staple items that I feel we shouldn’t have waste time hunting down. They’ve also gotten really stingy with hours. It used to just be on the slower weekdays that we were stretched a little thin with help but now it’s busy weekends as well. You’ll see the same couple of baggers busting their butts doing all of the carryouts while the majority of cashiers

ProsThe pay and benefits are good for the industry, great coworkers and lower level management

Friendly, caring, helpful, team oriented, community involved; my HEB

I have a deep respect for the HEB company and what it stands for. This company is constantly involved in the community and is always striving to make it the best place to shop. The management and employees are friendly, caring, and truly do their best to work together as a team. I am proud to be a part of the HEB team. Always do your best to keep a positive friendly and welcoming attitude even if you come across difficult or frustrating situations, and always try to keep the customer satisfied with your service. I like the scheduling flexibility because it allowed me to work throughout numerous college classes without any serious conflicts. The company also offers great benefits for its partners.

a little about me and H-E-B

HEB was a very good place to work, full of friendly co-workers and a very nice environment. i only worked their for a short period of time because i was 16 at the time working and i didnt have reliable transportation so i showed up alot of times late which lead me to get terminated from the job. I really wish i had a car back then because if i did, i would probally still be working their now instead of McDonalds. I learned the hard way that you need to be at work on time or their will be consequences for your actions. i made a promise to myself that i will always try my best to make it on time to work everytime because now i have a car and i will make sure i get their on time everytime.

Great First Job Experience

HEB Grocers was a great first job. I learned to work in a fast pace environment, under pressure, and continually improving in my interactions with customers and my Items Per Minute (IPMs) scanned to get customers through my line fast and efficiently. The management was strict, helpful, and had an expectation of you and the store itself, they always look out for their partners and want them to succeed. It was a great first job to get the experience and understand how customer service works that way I can apply to more challenging jobs like being an assistant or an office oriented job.

Pros15 minute breaks every two hours

ConsLots of people go to HEB, you must to be able to work under pressure and expectations of managers.

Working at H-E-B

check in, in the break room, start bagging any ones groceries, or if you are a cashier like me sign in at the computer start checking the items on the belt until the belt is empty or until the next family puts there items on the belt. how to bag groceries properly and check items really fast, i had gotten so fast they put me in the 10 items or less register. A Manager was always present. Co-workers always there and quick to help out. Keeping track of all the carts because they were always spread out and for some reason absent in the location were there supposed to be. Break time was very enjoyable because that was the only time i could waist it.

Prosbreak, nice people, nice managers

ConsThe pay was a little low for me but i worked with it.

Great work place for highschool students

Typical day at work would be checking out customers and scanning groceries and when the store was not too busy, help bag groceries for other employees. I learned customer service skills and how to work on a team. Management was great but then again managers were always being changed almost monthly due to stores needs im guessing. I consider this job was a very fun place for highschool students because its a wonderful workplace and experience and see something new every day. The hardest part of the job was pushing grocery carts from the parking lot. The most enjoyable part of the job was being recognized for hardwork.

Getting Started

HEB instilled a strong sense of teamwork in me. I was able to work in many different fields while being employed with them. This gave me a deeper insight into the role we all play in helping the company succeed. I greatly enjoyed my experience in assisting the community with their shopping needs and building a good rapport with my peers. My managers taught me how to budget my time to make sure all assigned tasks were completed daily. The most difficult part of the job was not being able to advance in the company in a timely manner. It was fun to work with people I had known my whole life.

ProsFlexible hours, weekly pay

Easy Job, Lots of Drama

The job itself was very easy to handle. The reason I had to step away was because of the lack of hours and not being able to move up in the company. I also had this job as my starter job, which helped me through high school and part of college. I loved the friends I made there, but would I go back, probably not. There was a lot of pressure from the managers to keep our IPM (items per minute) up and to sell special items on sale at our registers. The hours did decrease, so you weren't guaranteed anything..

ProsPartner Perks, Great Starter Job, Easy Job

ConsDrama, Few Hours, Lots of Duties, Treated Semi-Unfairly

Very good company based on the good of the customer.

On a typical day i would inneract with dozens of customers, making sure they found everything they needed and left the store happy. I learned how to talk to people and make them happy even if telling them the opposite of what they wanted to hear. At my store the management was floppy but over them the management was really good. The hardest part of the job was doing alot of things at once but i soon learned how to multi-task. The most enjoyable parts were the customers and the benifits.

Me & My H-E-B. Where Only Management Matters.

A very stressful, unrealistic, & negative work environment w/ a high employee turn-over rate. Upper Management is apathetic, & doesn't address employee concerns. Unless you are a Department Manager or part of the clique, you are a nobody & don't receive any perks. Employees aren't treated equally. The Store Manager's main focus is on profit or anything else that makes her look good @ the Corporate level.

ProsThe Partner Card- 10% disc. on H-E-B & H.C.F. products; clocking out & going home.

ConsEverything else that isn't a "Pro"
