If one was to read this board, it seems like no one has an Optima with high miles that hasn't had an engine failure?

My questions , are these throw away cars after 100K.. Does anyone make it to 150K?. Or is that the 1 in a hundred chance.

Do the hybrids have better luck since their engine is being aided by the electric motors?

If this a Toyota board, the norm is 250K..

I'm not feeling the same about these Kia's?

Am I wrong?

Do you know what happens to Optimas with engine failure, or those that are diagnosed as likely to get the engine failure?

I bought a 2013 Optima Ex . My daughter drove it with no engine problems for 5 years and 141 K. We traded for 2018 Optima Ex last year.

Again, Im trying to ascertain if Optimas have some reliability as they grow older. No one would even question a Honda or Toyota with 150K on it.. I just don't hear of Optima owners with higher mileage cars. Are they out there?

Posted a while back, our '08 Optima 2.4 we purchased new and now with just under 300,000 miles, a real workhorse, great car, minimal problems.
Now for the '11 2.0T 155,000 miles:
Engine runs great but burns a qt. of oil every 600-700 miles.
Outer tie rod ends
Stabilizer end links
Headlight stalk
Both front wheel bearings
Pass. side axle
Brakes, brakes, brakes, sliders freeze, caliper piston sticks, have 4 new calipers/hoses sitting in garage waiting to be installed when I get enough energy
Left rear camber bolt frozen in bushing
Valve cover gasket leaking
Left front camber out used eccentric bolt

Usual problems from junk parts when manufactured:
Steering coupler
Turbo oil feed line
A/T temp sensor
A/C compressor

Think that's it............................for now!

I have a 2007 Optima LX. 2.4 it has 210120 miles. It runs great. Im not gentle on it. I have used synthetic oil since my first oil change. I change the oil now once a year or every 10,000 miles. We bought the car new in 2007. Beside the regular wear and tear items. I have replaced the starter, power steering pump and the harmonic balancer. The A/C blows as cold today as it did the day we took it off the lot. I have replaced the spark plugs twice. I also have used a K&N air filter when I replaced the factory filter at 30,000 miles. This Kia has been rock solid. We still use it every day. Was so impressed that we purchased our new off the lot 2016 Kia Optima hybrid EX. Having great results with this one too. This would be our third Kia. Our first was a 2002 Spectra that I traded in at 102000 miles and never had any problems with that one. Traded it for the 2007 Optima. I love my Optima's.

I have a 2013 LX with 139K on it. I just had the engine replaced under recall at 137K. It was a Hertz rental until I bought it at 25K. No problems other than the engine bearings going out. I feel they can go way over 150K with the proper maintenance. I drive 100 miles daily and I'm pretty sure I can make it over 200K with the new engine before any other components fail. This has been a pretty reliable car so far (with the exception of the engine replacement, but that didn't cost me a dime so I have a newish car for a few more years)

I have 126K miles on my 2013 optima. I run synthetic oil with factory filters, flushed the coolant, changed the spark plugs twice, ignition coils once, and changed the belt. So far the engine has been very reliable (knock on wood) with no CEL's. However, I have had other issues which are very annoying. Things break or stop working which shouldn't. For example the radio stopped working at 36K miles (out of warranty) and the wiper motor/linkages stopped had to be changed at 125K. Luckily Im able to make all the repairs myself, so the cost is minimal. But, its those small things that stop working that make me not want to purchase another Kia. I cant help but remember my first car, a 1978 POS Pontiac bonniville, the original radio and wipers worked!!

I have a 2012 EX that I bought new in 2012, it currently has 142,000 miles on it and runs like it did when new. I did a break-in oil change when it had about 400 miles on it (though they said it wasn't necessary anymore), I don't know if that helped, but for $35.00 it sure didn't hurt. It's been a fantastic car, and when it finally does die, I won't hesitate to jump into the new K5.

I'm at 107000 miles and the Optima has been great. I plan to drive the car into the ground before I replace it, but at this rate, I don't know if the car will ever die?

I have a 2011 2.4L with an engine replacement. The replacement was done at 82k miles. I'm now coming up on 200k miles. All recall work was done and I do oil changes about every 5k miles. The only repairs/replacement I've personally had to do is as follows:

Front driver's axle
Front driver's wheel
Front driver's wheel bearing
Front stabilizer bar bushings
Front rotors
Front brakes about every 1.5-2 years
Front driver's side tie rod
Tires, maybe 8-10
1, maybe 2 sets of rear brakes

My first Optima Ex, a 2013, bought new had 140 k trouble free miles on it when traded for a new 2018 Optima Ex which now has 50k trouble free miles on it. We also have a 2018 Optima SXL Turbo with 11 k trouble free miles.

Sitting at almost 130k on our 15’ and it’s been fine (knock on wood). Going to put about 200k on it before we get rid of it.

It’s been pushed to its limits and she’s held up fine mechanically. The drivings sort of calmed down after wife got the Tahoe....The car might get driven once a week or once every other week. Nothing other than oil changes since 70k miles. We’ve been told “for a 2015 that’s a lot of miles” but I’m trying to figure out how that’s a lot of miles for a 4 year old car.

I’ve seen Optimas for sale with 190-200k miles on the odo (recently saw a 2018 S model with 198k miles for sale). There’s a 2013 SXL for sale right now with 286k miles.

I work at a dealer in Tennessee and we had a soul that a guy drove for a real estate company that had over I think 450k on it but it was only the body that was original. But today this lady came in with the cleanest 310214 mile 13 optima. She is the original owner and according to the warranty work has never been opened up. Original trans and engine out of a theta 2 which is the highest I've ever seen. She swears on this mobil super synthetic 530. I was so surprised when I saw the number on the paper I thought it must have been a typo.

Inspiring!!

Mine is only at 187xxxK, yet runs sweet, no smoke, no significant detectable oil use in 3000m OCIs...

How many miles can Kia Optimas last?

The Kia Optima has an average lifespan of 200,000 miles, which translates into roughly 13 years of service when taking into account the average miles driven per year of 15,000. This makes the Kia Optima an affordable choice in the used car market which is set to last you for years to come.

Is the Kia Optima a reliable car?

The Kia Optima Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 8th out of 24 for midsize cars. The average annual repair cost is $471 which means it has lower than average ownership costs. The severity of repairs is average and the frequency of those issues is low, so major repairs are uncommon for the Optima.

Are Kias good after 100 000 miles?

Yes, Kias are known for lasting as long as other reliable vehicles like Hondas, Toyotas, and Hyundais. The automaker's powertrain warranty lasts up to 100,000 miles, but many drivers own their Kias far beyond that milestone.

What is the highest mileage on a Kia Optima?

As we've read before, the Optima does seem to be a reliable car that's capable of reaching the 200,000 miles mark without any significant problems.
