The construction is solid; initial setup was very quick. The pump fit a Primo 5-gal perfectly.

The first cup of water dispensed tasted great (I did not notice any plastic-y taste). So far, no issues with taste from hot, cold, or room temperature taps.

The hot side took only 5 or 10 minutes to get to temperature (an led indicates it has finished heating.) The manual claims to dispense hot water at 95 C: I did not measure it, but that seems to be the case. The water is more than hot enough to brew tea, coffee, cook ramen, etc. Seems like a handy feature. A switch in the back can turn off the heating, however, if you don't wish to use it.

The cold side took about an hour to reach temperature upon setting the unit up (again, a led indicates when the water is chilled to temperature.) However, once it did, I was quite impressed by it. I would estimate the temperature to be in the low to mid 40's F: at least as cold as my refrigerator. Though I was hesitant about the hour-long wait for cool water, the machine seems to have a very large tank for cold water. I am able to dispense several liters of water from the cold side without a noticeable rise in temperature. Aside from the initial hour, there hasn't been a time, in my normal use, where the water came out less than cold. I am, however, using it domestically, so I am unsure if the compressor and tank have the capacity for an office, etc. that requires a huge volume of cold water. Once again, there is an option to turn off the chilling via a switch on the back panel, if you do not plan on using it.

There is an led near the tap to help you see at night. I find this useful, but it can easily be turned off like the hot and cold functions.

The one fault I can find in it is that it seems slow to dispense water. This does not bother me personally, but when filling a liter cup, it may take as many as 20 seconds. The buttons to dispense water do not lock into place, so you are forced to hold them down until you are done pouring water.

I have had the unit for only a few days, so I can't comment on long-term function or issues. If I run into any problems down the road, I will try to edit this review and document them. That said, my experience so far with this water dispenser has been quite positive. Very glad I chose this model.

If you are talking longevity, this water dispenser is a money pit. The inside components are delicate and fragile. Thus, when I received the unit, it likely was tossed around and damaged in shipment. Water would not dispense. The distributor service personnel guided me to remove the top in order to align the three individual feeder hoses for each water receptacle. Once I got it running, I noticed it was noisy, but the unit is attractive and the bottom-loading feature was more attractive and convenient so I thought I could live with the noise. A couple of days after receiving it, I noticed a leak behind the unit. A hose seemed to be pinched but I could not determine the source. Also, the loading door did not close completely. I returned it for a replacement. The replacement unit arrived and it worked fine, except that both the room-temperature and chilled water buttons were both dispensing chilled water. I could live with that, too. Nine months later, one day the unit just stopped dispensing water.
The water dispenser has a one-year warranty. The warranty states: “…your exclusive remedy is replacement of this product or any component found to be defective at our option; however, you are responsible for all costs associated with returning the product to us and our returning a product or component under this warranty to you. If the product or component is no longer available, we will replace with a similar one of equal or greater value.” The distributor tried to help me troubleshoot, particularly by guiding me by phone to stick a paper clip into the pouring spout to perhaps clean out a deposit screen. This did not work to get the unit back up and running. After several phone follow up calls, me initiating every one of them, I was told that they are completely out of stock of this model so therefore I could not get a replacement. They asked me to contact Amazon. Because it is far beyond the Amazon return-by date, the only thing Amazon could do was issue me a courtesy credit of $20. I thought this was a fair resolution in their part, considering the return time had expired. Based on the warranty details, my next option would be to make a warranty claim directly to Hamilton Beach. However, I decided to cut my losses and not spend any more of my valuable time and money on replacing this junky appliance.
After seeing so many good reviews about this product—I am sure many of them written early on, close to their purchase date—I feel a strong duty to put the facts out there to consumers about this water dispenser: “Buyer Beware!” Attractive but poorly made for the price. Planned obsolescence.
