The discipline of wellbore positioning in the oil and gas industry was born as a way to manage risk, and this is still its primary function today. While sometimes this risk is only economic, new techniques used on both onshore and offshore wellbore design have made wellbore positioning a safety-critical activity.

INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP

For over 25 years, Scientific Drilling has led the industry in high accuracy gyro survey services, providing you with the ultimate drilling confidence. Since the introduction of the world’s first north-seeking gyroscope, we have been committed to innovative technology development to address the industry’s evolving well placement and risk mitigation challenges.

Scientific Drilling International holds a variety of leadership roles and remains active in industry organizations such as ISCWSA, SPE, IADC, and AADE. We are honored to play a key role in developing and validating the error models that become the industry standard for modeling survey uncertainty.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE AND RELIABILITY

Our gyro survey operators undergo rigorous and comprehensive training that consists of a combination of extensive hands-on classroom, and field training by our certified survey experts. We consistently deliver the highest quality of products and services through our proprietary TUF points preventative maintenance system and stringent series of calibration checks.

We are proud to design and manufacture all components down to the sensor level, ensuring product integrity and performance. Our suite of Wellbore positioning technologies and services include:

Survey Systems

We are dedicated to operational excellence through delivering the ultimate reliability and a customer experience that makes it easy to do business.

Keeper Gyro Survey Tools

The Keeper gyro survey system provides enhanced flexibility for a wide range of survey applications with just a single sensor. It features high-speed options, close interval surveying in casing, drill pipe, and tubing in real-time and memory modes. It’s most notable sightline mode allowing continuous survey and efficient steering even on floating platforms where a standard north seeking gyro would be unable to operate.

gyroMWD Module

The gyroMWD Module offers reliable measurements, precision and productivity. Our gyro MWD Module System is adapted to run with other MWD tools without having to change your service provider.

What is a gyro survey?

In surveying, a gyrotheodolite (also: surveying gyro) is an instrument composed of a gyrocompass mounted to a theodolite. It is used to determine the orientation of true north.

What is a gyro survey oil and gas?

The gyro is used where magnetic survey instruments cannot be used such as in cased holes and in areas where encountered. In the oil & gas gyro single-shot survey tool, a gyroscope is rotated by an electric motor at approximately 40,000 rpm.

What is a gyro in the oil field?

A gyro, or gyroscope, is a device that uses Earth's gravity to determine orientation; in the case of directional drilling, tool-face magnitude and orientation (TFMO). A gyro consists of a freely rotating disc mounted on a spinning axis in the center of a larger and more stable wheel.

What does gyro tool measure?

Gyroscopes, or gyros, are devices that measure or maintain rotational motion. MEMS (microelectromechanical system) gyros are small, inexpensive sensors that measure angular velocity. The units of angular velocity are measured in degrees per second (°/s) or revolutions per second (RPS).
