Dragon Ball Z: Budokai was one of the first 3D Dragon Ball Z fighting games released. In this game, players will relive the first three sagas of the cartoon. In addition to the canon story mode, Budokai also features a few "What If" scenarios. These scenarios retell the events of the Dragon Ball Z saga by slightly changing the events. If you've ever wanted to see how Gohan would fare against Frieza, now's your chance. Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 for the PS3 is almost four times bigger than the first Budokai game in the series. Budokai 3 incorporates every saga in the Dragon Ball Z universe, from the Vegeta saga to the Kid Buu saga. You'll even be able to play story-based events based on the movies. The character roster in this universe is massive, with over 70 different people to play as. As you play through the game, you'll unlock more combatants. Mainstays like Goku, Vegeta, Cell, and Gohan are all present, and niche characters like Bardock, Dodoria, and Android 16 help to further flesh out the roster. The upgrades for these fighters, such as Goku's Super Saiyan form, are also available. Any character who has had any screen presence is available to fight. Even characters from Dragon Ball GT make an appearance in this title. These fighters, including Goku, come equipped with all of their devastating special attacks from the cartoon. However, Budokai 3 prides itself on its customization. There are 60 different moves per character. You can customize your favorite Z warrior to create the ultimate battle machine. Budokai 3 also features more modes than the previous release. In addition to the Story mode and Versus mode, there are also Tournament, Survival, and Multiplayer modes. Both entries on the PlayStation 3 feature improved graphics. The graphics are upscaled to a higher resolution, making the fighters like Goku look just like they do in the cartoon. This re-release has also overhauled the music, replacing the original music with newer, updated tunes. Lastly, there is the option to change all of the voices from English to Japanese. Fast fighting, fun customization options, tournament and multiplayer modes, and a myriad of attacks make these Dragon Ball Z games worth playing repeatedly on the PS3.
