Do car seat covers fit all cars

Methodology

We assessed car seat covers based on type of car seat cover, price and reviews from critics and users. We focused on the quality and detail of reviewer comments and images provided by buyers (when available). We also assessed the color, shape and fit in manufacturers photos and videos to assess each set’s quality, fit, look and performance.

We evaluated installation videos when available for ease or difficulty to install, and assessed the variety of materials, colors and amount of coverage that the seat covers provide.

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is a car seat cover?

It’s a supplemental covering to protect the whole seat, the seat-bottom and backrest area that the driver's or passenger’s body touches. Some cover just the seat bottom. Some are meant for near-permanent installation, others can be removed quickly. They can be for front seats only or front and back seats. There are universal fit (a somewhat looser fit) and custom-fit seat covers.

What are seat covers made of?

Typically, it’s a fabric or imitation leather. Synthetic leathers are called polyurethane (PU) leather, faux leather or leatherette. Few are cotton. Costlier seat covers are made from real leather or sheepskin pelts. Supporters of PU leather note it's vegan. But polyurethane does have hydrocarbons which can be harmful. Faux leathers have improved considerably in the past decade.

What else should I look for in a seat cover?

There are two basic types: universal and fitted car seat covers. Some are designed to stretch and clip to fit almost any seat while others are designed specifically for different types of vehicles, such as pickup trucks or compact sedans. Make sure car seats will fit and work with your seats, that they don’t block the seat adjustment controls and allow split folding rear seats to slide or fold forward. Make sure seat covers are airbag compatible, that the seatbelts are easy to access and that child passenger car seat LATCH anchors can be reached if you need them.

How much do seat covers cost?

Seat covers  can cost anywhere from $25 to $250. Sheepskin covers or leather covers that follow the curves of the seats can cost $500 to well over $1,000.

Is a seat cover a good idea if I have a pet?

Yes, it protects seats from pet hair, abrasions from scratching and accidents. Look for one of the seat covers that are easy to remove for necessary washing. There are also pet-specific seat covers.

Are seat covers tacky?

Beauty and ugliness are both in the eye of the beholder. Inexpensive seat covers may look like what they are—a cover for the seat, as opposed to a second skin that appears to be part of the original seat. Colors that stray from ivory-beige-brown-black may clash with the rest of the interior trim. Synthetic leathers look increasingly close to actual leather seating.

Can I install seat covers myself?

Absolutely. Be sure to watch any installation videos vendors have online. Some universal-fit seat coves may appear loose in some places and snug in others. To get that second-skin look takes some tugging.

Are seat covers machine washable?

Fabric seat covers are machine washable: Pre-treat stains with a laundry enzyme presoak, then wash in cold water, on a gentle cycle preferably, and then dry on a delicate or permanent-press cycle. Synthetic leathers can be cleaned with soapy water and a clean cloth or sponge, then wiped dry with a separate cloth. There are also commercial cleaners marked for leatherette or leather/vinyl.

5.0 out of 5 stars Water resistant and stylish

I bought these for my '14 JKU.So far I love these seat covers for style, structure/durability, fluid resistance and overall comfort. They even send it in a nice zipper bag.My few complaints are that the hook connections for the front seat covers don't seem to connect through the mid section to keep the cover stationary. They slide around the platform of the seat when you shift your body.I haven't officially secured the rear covers to the seat yet, but I would say that because of the versatility for different style seats these do not provide 100% coverage on the middle section of the base of the seat.

These look amazing on my 2021 TRX! My only complaint is that even though it said they were compatible, the center section in the back seat is too narrow (by quite a bit) so the left and right seat cover are not connected in the center which causes them to move around when people sit on them (im worried that they may either pull out or rip at some point from people sliding out of the seat when getting out of the truc).
I've tried other ways to try and keep them pulled together, but so far no luck.

I never write Amazon reviews but I jumped to write here immediately after installing them because I’m so happy with it!
I hate cloth seats, so I find this to be a such a stylish and cost-saving alternative to buying a Civic with leather seats. The leather feels nice, and the stretchy neoprene material on the back of these cover pieces allows for easy installation. Plenty of insertable hinges included for you to attach to avoid slipping.

I don’t believe I installed correctly! My actual seat was ripping so instead of reupholstering them for 1,000$ I got these and so far durable and cute but the instructions aren’t very specific just shows how to put the covers on the back.. I have front ones also. It also sent a back of yellow plastic donut things and metal hooks and I did my best but I don’t think I installed them right worth money though

Installing them has a beginner was difficult the pamphlet on how to install didn't explain that well had to such up videos how install and for my jeep renegade 2017 one front seat cover seems to be off its bigger then the driver seat and the sewing compared to the driver seat seems to not be fully completed due to the logo on the back missing sewing parts of the white logo and choppy sewing compared to the driver seat of being fully done and polished I don't know if I just received a faulty seat or if it's natural made like that and the back seat is perfect however the middle back seat seems to be to small for my jeep renegade but besides those problems I love the desgin and the how comfortable.

I've had these seat covers for about a year. They look nice and have held up well. They still make my car smell like synthetic plastic fake leather so I guess that's permanent. They don't breathe well at all, if it's hot out my back gets pretty sweaty. I would probably buy fabric or neoprene if I could do it over.

I wanted to update the look of my car and tried these seat covers as part of that process. Wow! These are amazing! They make my car look and feel like it has high end luxurious leather seats. I totally love them. They are fairly easy to install. You don't have to remove any seats to install the covers. The only slight downside, for me, is that the head rest covers don't cover the sides of the headrests. It doesn't affect how they feel or anything. They're still great. But I wish she zipped up or something, to completely encase the headrests, but that is purely personal. These seat covers are absolutely amazing and I am so glad I bought them!!!

Let me start with this. Blue is my favorite color, but this has A LOT of blue on it. The pictures of it are not joking. This will make a boring car seat stand out.

Good:
It does look very good in a car, and fit mostly well in my Nissan Kicks. The head rest covers are very big and took some work to get them to fit well enough. The actual seat covers, near perfect fit.

They look like real leather. I believe it does say it is synthetic leather, but they feel, and smell, like real leather which is a very nice touch. Also because the dealership would probably use the same stuff and change four times as much. And theirs isn't blue.

The pockets on the back and a very cool addition I did not expect. Four pockets that fits quite a bit in them. Rags, bags, masks, and random things children like to shove into pockets.

Child proof. A car seat fits well, and the holes do not interfere with hook ups. As well as buckling it up.

Bad:
Not big dog proof. It's hair proof, slobber proof, but not nail proof. First time my dog got into the car he got two holes into it. Not the end of the world, and isn't very noticeable, but if you have a big dog, be careful.

Arm rest. I have yet to meet a seat cover properly supports the arm rest in cars. These are no exception.

This is a good, but it also has a draw back. Leather. High heat plus sweat equals sticky. No avoiding it, and anyone who has had leather seats will tell you that.

Overall, a very good buy and do not regret it.

I really like it, and, even though I know this is a universal kit, the cover over the bench should be one piece-made instead of 3 separated pieces. The middle seat connects to the others 2 with velcro, and when a rider moves from one side to the other, the middle cover can be folded.

How do I know what seat covers will fit my car?

Compare the size of your car's seats to the size of the seat covers. For example, if you have a Mazda 3, your upper seat is about 50" (shoulder room) x 30" (top-bottom measurement). If you're looking at a seat cover that is 60" x 30", it's going to be really loose across the seat in the shoulder room.

Do seat covers work with all cars?

But in most cases, the answer is no. And here's why: Universals are made to fit as many vehicles as possible. If you consider the thousands of cars out there, having a seat cover that actually fits all of these vehicles seems almost impossible.

Does every car seat fit every car?

Not all car seats fit in all vehicles. Make sure the car seat is the right fit for your vehicle (PDF, 1.77 MB). Test the car seat you plan to buy to make sure it fits well in your vehicle. Buy a car seat that can be installed and used correctly every time.
