Briggs and stratton no oil drain plug

Briggs and stratton no oil drain plug

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have a steering arm next to the oil hole, this is NOT the correct part
Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2021

Ignore the 1-star reviews about it breaking as these people don’t know what they’re doing. Look at any of the pictures or read where they “had to move the steering arm” and yet the valve broke because this isn’t the right part for their application.I have a late-90s Craftsman LT1000 and this part is a replacement for the leaky original valve. No steering arm in the way, just an electrical cable above it. I have no doubt this won’t give me any issues as there is nothing mechanical to break. It feels far more robust than the original one, as well.

Gain easy access to motor oil drain....fit perfect.

This plug fits the B&S engines that come with square drain plugs on both sides (I believe they're 1/2") [these are the only ones that I've confirmed, myself]

Some products that have this engine:
DR Chipper/Shredder (Generac)
Older off-brand rolling leaf blowers
Ariens Snowblowers (SEE BELOW)

Do I need it?
FIND your drain plug, if it's on the bottom of your mower, where the blades are - not a good place to install it. Also, Ariens has the sanity-saving upgrade of a tube that comes out the BACK of the motor and is capped off with a cover, not a plug.

I know all this stuff, do you have anything to add?
The hex is 1" and the plastic body won't slip over, so forget about ratcheting wrenches to put it on
Use a 6" crescent wrench (big enough to fit, small enough you won't over torque accidentally
One of our motors that we put this on had VERY little clearance to screw this in - be patient
In our case, the travel was about 1/2" then flip over the wrench and do the same, repeat

You undoubtedly will want to buy a longer hose than it comes with.

Husqvarna 23/48 lawn tractor, 23 HP engine. The valve on the engine was no longer sealing properly and was leaking. I had tried several things to get it to stop but nothing was working. Replacement was my next option.
I am so grateful to have found the full kit here, it was an exact replacement for the OEM part.

I loosened the engine bolts from the bottom and used a deep well 15/16ths socket.
Total replacement time was under half an hour. As you need to drain the engine oil to remove the part, I went ahead and did a full engine service while I was at it.
1-5 Difficulty, I would call it a 2. Pretty easy IMHO. And best of all it fixed my oil leakage problem.

5 Stars and I would recommend!

Didn't work for me. It interfered wit the steering link. Otherwise would have been OK.

You might have to loosen the bolts lift the motor to get this to fit but it does make it easier and leads clean up if you have it on

Not a super fan of this style of drain but it's on my engine. Replacing is easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect fit

Reviewed in Canada on June 13, 2021

fits perfectly on my older Craftsman 20HP with a B&S Intek engine.

I'm fairly certain the one that was on there was some cheap knock-off that the guy who did some work for me a few years back installed on it to make life easier for himself. It didn't look the same as this one, and it was leaking all over the place. This one is just a tad bigger and felt about twice as heavy in my fingers.

Anyways, this is a genuine B&S part. It comes in a B&S package and it comes with a clear detachable tube which is about 6 inches long, which is more than enough to get it over the side of most lawn tractors and into whatever used oil capture device you plan on using.

It comes with (what appears to be) white teflon tape already prewrapped on the threads. So that's a nice touch by B&S.

For under $10 CDN right now (mid June 2021) if you're a DIYer then this is a no-brainer if you think it'll fit your engine. With Amazon's return policy if it doesn't fit just choose "not compatible/useful" as the reason for the return and you won't even have to pay return shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ölwechsel viel einfacher ohne Kleckerei!

Reviewed in Germany on December 2, 2019

Tolle Idee!

5.0 out of 5 stars No more easy change system!

Reviewed in Canada on April 19, 2022

I put this on during the first oil change on my S130 John Deere. I converted my motor to use conventional filters. This will help to get all the old oil out quickly and easily. This it what should be on the tractor not that silly pop off filter that leaves old oil in the motor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Schrott

Where is the oil drain plug on a Briggs and Stratton?

Typically, however, on vertical shaft engines, the oil drain plug is located beneath the engine block near the crankshaft. To remove the square plug, all that is required is a standard size 3/8" ratchet and extension (no socket).

Where is the oil drain plug located on lawn mower?

If your engine is equipped with a drain plug, it would be located under the lawn mower deck. Look carefully as the drain plug may be obstructed by clumps of turf or debris, the belt guard or the mower blade (use caution when moving the blade).
