A recent report from Forbes determined the nine best places to live in Texas, and Amarillo made the list based on lifestyle factors such as the area's median home price, personal income per capita, and the unemployment and crime rate.

So, what other cities made the list of the top nine places to live in Texas?

Austin came in at No.1 followed by Houston at No. 2 with Fort Worth, College Station, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Amarillo and Brownsville, rounding out the top cities, in order. 

Amarillo came in at No. 8 with an average income of $ ($51,116), monthly expenses at ($6,297), an unemployment rate of  3.0%, with a median home price of ($329,450), according to the report. To determine the rankings, Forbes considered a wide range of information including population statistics from the 2021 U.S. Census Bureau, median home prices from 2022 Realtor.com, cost of living for a family of four from the Economic Policy Institute, personal income per capita and unemployment statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis in 2020 and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, May 2022.

The report measured crime rate comparisons from the FBI Crime Data Explorer, 2020 and the well-being of each city was determined from ShareCare Community, a Well-Being Index data source.
