Location

In Times Square – off the main drags of Broadway and Seventh Avenue; it's close to the chaos, but also removed enough if you want to escape. The 42nd Street subway hub and the Port Authority bus station are two minutes' from the hotel’s door.

Aladdin, Phantom of the Opera, and Broadway’s finest shows play in theatres on the surrounding streets. Bryant Park is a quick stroll away, and Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center are about a 10-minute walk. Hop on the subway for three stops and be in Central Park. For gourmet snacks or a quick bite, Dean & Deluca is across the street and Guy & Gaillard sits on the same block.

Style and Character

AC (Adequate Comfort) Hotel New York Times Square introduces a strong design statement. On the exterior, the pleated glass tower stands on a granite-paved plaza, while the urban vibe persists in the modern interior with its soaring, well-lit lobby space and mid-century style furnishings.

A wide, marble reception desk greets visitors, and a mostly neutral palette welcomes a splash of colour from a contemporary mobile art installation dangling from the 23-foot ceilings. Take note of the pieces by local artists on display throughout the public spaces, lending a gallery-like quality.

Service and Facilities

While there’s no room service, the rooftop lounge stays open until 11pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends. You can also buy locally-produced snacks and drinks in the lobby. For wellness-conscious travellers, a 24-hour state-of-the-art fitness centre is located on the lower level, which also houses a business centre for checking emails and printing boarding passes. Rooms

Bedrooms either include one king-sized bed or two doubles, and are on the smaller side, even for New York. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow for plenty of natural light, though, and blackout shades keep rooms dark for restful sleep. Taupe and milk chocolate tones relax and soothe, and Richard Silver’s photography depicts some of the city’s most iconic buildings.

While you won’t have robes or slippers in the room, you will get the luxury of excellent Marriott mattress and bed linens, as well as a safe, fridge with complimentary water, coffee maker and Korres toiletries. A small hanging space is open to the room and provides a place for luggage. There’s also a small desk with plenty of outlets for all things tech. Some rooms offer balconies and stellar city views.

Food and Drink

Boqueria transports guests to a Barcelona tapas bar for a night. A wide selection of small dishes range from cheese plates and jamón to octopus, pork belly and lamb skewers. For big appetites, opt for the paella or slow-roasted chicken with a glass of Tempranillo or sangria. In the summertime, sit in the sidewalk café and watch life go by on West 40th Street.

For $29 (£22), the breakfast buffet features croissants and country bread, sweet and savory tarts, artisanal cheese and charcuterie, yogurt, fresh fruit, a seasonal scramble and more (coffee, tea and juice are included in the price). À la carte morning items range from omelettes, smoked salmon, soft-boiled eggs and avocados to Nutella and cinnamon sugar churros – all absolutely fresh and delicious.

The Castell Rooftop is the epitome of chic and where bartenders shake and stir martinis, highballs, and AC Hotel’s signature Gin Tonic, as well as pour wine, beer and sherry. Munch on toasted almonds with smoked Spanish paprika, ideal with a refreshing glass of French rosé. Or pair your swill with ahi tuna tartare, Mediterranean shrimp cocktail and other shareable plates.
