Audience Reviews for A Day Without a Mexican

Starts out funny, and then just stays rather boring...

  • Jun 29, 2008

This movie is really cheesy and looked like something from 1984 rather than 2004 but it does start a good conversation about immigration and makes you think!

  • Mar 01, 2007

I know I've seen this movie but it was pretty forgettable.

  • Jun 18, 2006

This movie was disappoiting. It had a low production value and all the characters were just gross characterizations. The acting was not all that good. They could have done more with the movie, but instead they went for the cheesy.

I saw this movie years ago on cable. I did not see the whole movie. I tried to find it again on cable but it was not available. I put it on my wishlist, and never came up again For over 10 years. Then a month or so ago while I was shopping for movies on Amazon, I did a search for this title, and it was there so I bought it. I was able to watch it in its entirety, and although it was funny , it is also poignant as a lot of well off people need to have these people to do certain domestic jobs for them. Back then in that time frame it was kind of status quo, But now we realize that without all of these people to do the domestic and construction and other dirty jobs no one else would want to do, we would be in pretty bad shape. So hopefully you will learn a lesson from this movie..

Have you every thought what it would be like to GET RID OF ALL THOSE PEOPLE.

Just what does the Mexican community contribute to California?

Well there are a lot of people who think they are a drain on the California economy. But ARE THEY REALLY???

Can you name all the jobs that the Mexican community does, from the very top, right down to the very bottom of the economic ladder.

Maybe YOU don't like to do some job that you think is beneath you, well who do you call to do that work at BELOW minimum wage.

As a person who's family members where part of the group that STOLED California from Mexico in the 1840"s, even I was surprised at just how dependent California is on the people who may have come from Mexico one time or another.

There is a reason why California is the sixth economy in the world, and it is because many different ethic groups of people have made it so.

So take a second or even a minute to think where all the things you need to live with came from or who worked to get them to you.

Ask you self if you would be willing to do the work that many of the other ethic groups do especially the Mexican community.

I've seen this film several times and enjoyed it enough to buy it, but the $3.18 copy I bought here has no Spanish soundtrack. Although the menu appears to allow you to choose between English and Spanish, both choices default to English with Spanish subtitles, which doesn't do justice to the basic theme of showing the importance to the Californian economy of Mexican workers.
I am heavily in favor of immigration, but not illegal immigration.
In my mind, everyone is welcome to come to America, but only if you are willing to uphold American values up to and including fighting in a war to defend those values.

Funny ass movie and so true, w/o the immigrant Mexicans who do the jobs that so many Americans are un-willing to do, Cali would be Screwed Blued, and Tattooed. Tried to get a fellow soldier of Mexican origin to watch it, almost came to blows because he thought I was disparaging Mexicans. Something about the title. His loss. I still laugh about the Old folks home people picking oranges. Great satire!

This is thorough, credible, and informative illustration of the value of immigrants to America. If the immigrant haters would all watch this, they would see that they personally benefit greatly from all the immigrants to the US, both legal and illegal. I doubt that would not make much difference to their ranting and hostility, but at least they would know, what we all have to lose, if we were to ever let them win... Do the world a favor, buy this and share it with your friends.

I purchased "A Day Without A Mexican" to view in my class at the university. I am co-teaching a course in diversity consciousness. The students were required to submit reviews of the movie and to examine their own views on this type of movie. I introduced it as a socio-political piece that would provide alot of information. I am in Indiana with an influx of immigrants Mexican and Asian on the uprise. These two populations provide needed services in agriculture and the service industry. Therefore it made sense to show this video to elicit critical thinking for our students. It did just that. Some hated the movie and others felt it was an eye-opener. It would be great to duplicate this effort on a national level to view the impact.

Trotzdem einfach aergerlich.
