40 days of lent scripture reading reflection prayer

40 days of lent scripture reading reflection prayer

Lent begins 40 days before Easter (not counting Sundays) on the day the church has traditionally called Ash Wednesday.  What is Lent all about?  And what is the significance of Ash Wednesday?  How should we observe this time on the church calendar?  Should we give up something?  (Read: How Should You Observe Lent?

There are a lot of questions about Lent.  And we have answered many of them. Check out our article listed below, watch our video, download the file of 40 Titles.

Prepare for Lent

Begin preparing for the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection by observing the 40 days of Lent.  Some might “give something up,” as has been the tradition in some denominations for centuries.  But I suggest that you consider “taking something up.”  Make Lent a time of dedication — dedicating yourself to spending more time reading your Bible, reflecting on God’s teachings and revelation, and in prayer.

40 Days Looking to Jesus

Make Lent a time of focusing on Jesus.  He is the reason for this season (both the Christmas and Easter seasons).  Think about who Jesus is and all that He did during His earthly ministry.  Then reflect upon all that Jesus does for you because you belong to Him.

I suggest that over the next forty days you consider the titles of Jesus found in His Word.  Here’s a list of 40 titles (there are many more).  Download our chart and reflect upon a title each day leading up to Easter (Remember the 40 days do not include Sundays.)

Look up the Scripture for each title and ponder in your heart the gracious and generous work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What scripture should I read during Lent?

Matthew 4:1-11 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. '”

What is your reflection about Lent?

Lent is a time to correct our bad habits and make ourselves a little bit more in Christ's image. Lent is also a time for sacrifice. During this season, we have the opportunity to sacrifice something that is meaningful to us.

What prayer is said during Lent?

Lent Prayer for the Comfort of God's Grace Almighty God, grant that we who deserve to be afflicted for our evil deeds may mercifully be relieved by the comfort of your grace; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

What is the 40 day prayer?

What is 40 Days of Prayer? 40 Days of Prayer is an event that invites believers to pray and study the Bible together. These days are times of earnest intercession and believing in God to answer prayer. Some also participate in 40 days of Prayer and Fasting to help renew the spirit and focus wholly on God.
