I'm going to install a trailer hitch on my CX-5 and want to lift up the rear end of the car to give myself more clearance to work. I was going to lift up the rear end and place jack stands at the two rear side jacking points using pinch weld adapters. But to lift up the rear end, can I use the rear differential housing? Show
A service manual for the older CX-5 shows this to be an acceptable lifting point for AWD cars. It looks like there is a flat U-beam protrusion (circled in red) on the bottom of the differential that seems to be the lifting point. Has anyone lifted the rear using this central point? Hi there, if you have a handbook it will tell you in there, or if you have a look at the attached picture you can see where the jack should go. Never try to work under the vehicle when supported by a jack... axles stands should be used. Hope this helps

Hi all. 2017 CX-5, GT AWD. The rear diff case has this square-ish protrusion that hangs down. Can I use this as a lift point? Im not sure how strong that is, and I really dont want to damage that diff housing. I was just going to use a floor jack and maybe a small block of wood. Just need to pull the wheel, and I never, ever, crawl underneath unless I am using jack stands. Just wondering if I could lift the rear using this point. Thanks!
